Description
Childhood is a very unique period of our life, a period in which a child goes through a lot of changes.
This stage is a golden period of our life in which a child undergoes all-around development. In this section, we shall go through, in detail, the various developmental changes in childhood, the concept of child and childhood, problems faced by children in their childhood, and the role of family, neighborhood, school, and teacher.
Child rights are human rights that also recognize the special needs for care and protection of minors - children and young people under the age of 18. All children have these rights, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, or cultural background. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.
At this stage of childhood, children face many psychological problems. These problems can be emotional, behavioral or learning related. In this course, we will discuss a few of them
Childhood is a building-up period for a child from an educational point of view. The responsibility for this goes to the family, neighborhood, school, and teacher. Therefore for the round development of a child, family, neighbors, school and teachers have to play certain roles.
In an effort to understand the primary school child, it is also very important to make an effort to appreciate the developmental changes that take place from childhood to adolescence. That will be done in this course elaborately.
The field of child development also known as growth and development is concerned with the changes in the behavior of children over a period of time and describes why and how it occurs. In this course, we will discuss how children learn through child development theories and concerns of children and how they can be addressed by parents, teachers and administrators.
Knowing about children’s rights gives teachers the tools to assess whether the rights of every child are being respected not only in their classrooms and schools but also in the larger community.
Knowing about children’s rights allows teachers to challenge attitudes and behaviors within the classroom that jeopardizes rights such as the right to safety, the right to not be discriminated against, or the right children to participate and have their voices heard.
As school teachers and parents, it is very important for you to know the issues around Child Rights; to be sensitive and alert to what is going on in your students’ lives beyond school, and how you can help your students and their families.
A child who is physically or psychologically ill-treated is said to be subjected to child abuse. Child abuse can be of four types – neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and, the worst, sexual abuse. Child abuse also includes poor education and health, hazardous employment, early marriage, and discrimination. This course discusses Constitutional and legal provisions in India. Finally, we have discussed how you as a teacher, and parent can protect the child.
