Hey guys. Now I’ve constructed this course in the following manner. For each section there will be an introductory lecture which explains what you’ll be learning in that section. This will then be followed by an explanation of the Case Study we’ll be working on. Now I’ve create case studies rather than just generic examples because it’s more fun, more interesting and you can really see how you can apply the Case Study example to your own life. After the Case Study we go straight into the lectures where videos go for about 4-7 minutes long on average.
Now once the lectures are finished I do a quick summary of everything you learn in that section. We then follow this with a quiz where you can test out your skills. I have placed some tricks and curveballs in those quizzes to really see if you’re paying attention. Hey guys and welcome to the next lecture. Here I’m just going to go briefly through the menu ribbon. This is more for those who are transferring from Microsoft 2003 and this is the first time you’re seeing the ribbon. Now if you’ve already given it a try and found that you couldn’t find anything and starting thinking the old way was better, well you’re wrong! I actually think that this menu ribbon style is far superior to the original for a number of reasons. But before we get to those reasons lets go through it.
In this lecture we’ll be looking into how to move the page around. I have to admit that this skill is definitely underrated. I think the reason most people don’t practice this is because they don’t realize how much time their wasting on trying to get the right view. Also, I don’t think they’ve ever seen someone who is highly skilled at doing these things. So here for the very first time in internet history we’re going to become the masters of scrolling.
Hello boys and girls. So like scrolling, zooming in and out is also one of the most underrated techniques in Excel. You won’t believe how time people use trying to get the right of their data. And also, what people don’t understand is that because they think they’re only losing one or two seconds here and there, over the long run you could be losing days or weeks. So what I’m going to do is show you the different ways to zoom and get the right view so that you can get to work quickly and efficiently. Lets begin.
Hey guys. Welcome to the next section where we will be learning how to create your first table from start to finish. Now the reason I have decided to do a full analysis is so that you don’t have to wait till lecture 10 or 11 or even completing the course before you can start applying basic techniques to your lives. Just the ability to create a table and do one basic function is enough to absolutely revolutionize the way you do business. Now this section will include everything from creating your very first table with headings and basic formatting all the way up to performing some pretty cool formulas.
The case study we’ll be looking at is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart and my stomach, and that topic is hotdogs. I’ve put together an imaginary hotdog business where we will be buying hotdogs to sell, sell the hotdogs, buy more stock and then try and forecast or project how many hotdogs we’ll sell for the rest of the year. Immediately you can see the capabilities of excel when I used the word forecast.
One of the things I do on a daily basis is try and determine patterns and forecast for different things in my life like my finances, business needs, company goals and so on. Imagine where you could apply these same techniques in your lives. Imagine being able to plot your expenses and to statistically prove that you have enough money for the house, for the kids or even if its just for fun. Things like making sure your lemonade stand is making enough money to cover your expenses. As the topics get more complex and you start doing larger and larger analysis just remember that it all started here. Learning how to create and calculate your first table. So, lets get started.
The very first thing you should do before you do absolutely anything else in Excel is to save your work. You won’t believe how many times people don’t save their work or don’t save it properly. If there was one thing I could teach you guys, even if you don’t learn anything else in this course is to develop the habit to save your work. And not just save it, but save it properly. This has saved me and the companys I’ve worked for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Hey guys welcome back. The next thing we’re learning is using the Fill Handle. The fill handle is an incredible tool that I think most people haven’t yet learned to use creatively. Now what the Fill Handle does is determine patterns in your data and forecasts the next set. For example, if you type in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Excel will guess that the next day to fill in is Thursday! Pretty neat. But you can go a step further. You can go at different increments. For example, you can type in 0, 10 and 20. Excel will then forecast that the next number is 30. You can do this for decimal places, formula’s and even formatting. But for now let’s do the basics.
Hey guys. For this lecture we’ll be doing your very first mathematical equation. Now I know everyone loves maths and everyone’s good at it so we won’t have a problem here right. Wrong! Most people suck at match and if you are one of these people you are going to love what we’re going to do next. The power of Excel is that it can perform these powerful calculations for you and carry them through. What do I mean by this? When you’re in school and trying to calculate something with multiple steps, you have to carry the results from part A, into part B. This is where the mistakes happen. In Excel we can set it up so you can see exactly where the information is coming from and where it’s going next. But enough talk let’s do it.

Hey guys welcome back. For this lecture we’re not going to be doing any formula’s instead I want to show a neat function of Excel and that’s the status bar calculator. As you’ll notice from the previous lectures, sometimes it’s necessary to check if the formula we have creating is linked up properly. One of the ways to do this to simply highlight the field like so, and Excel will automatically calculate some basic values in the status bar. Values like the average, count, maximum, minimum etc are automatically calculated. This is also helpful if you don’t necessarily want to calculate it on your work page.

Hey guys welcome to the next section called “The Quick Access Toolbar.” Now that you guys are a bit familiar with Microsoft Excel and icons and scrolling and all that I’d like to teach you this awesome tool to make your life so much easier. Now for those of you coming from 2003 Excel, you’ll notice firstly the difference in the menu tabs. What you’ll also notice is that the menu tab can be minimized which gives you better visibility of your worksheet because there is more room. Now for a lot of the functions there are shortcuts but not for all of them. So instead of opening and closing the menu tab all the time, Microsoft has developed the Quick Access Toolbar.
Hey guys welcome back. Let’s try adding icons to the toolbar. So far you’ve learned some basic formatting, some cell formatting and wordart. Let’s try adding the Bold, Italic and Underline formatting.
Now one thing I’ve noticed with a lot of people is their fascination with shortcuts or hotkeys. Now let me tell you, when you get to the point where you’re barely even touching your mouse to do any work, then you are probably in the top few percentage of Excel users who would be considered gurus or experts. If you do the math, the number of times you switch from keyboard to mouse could be as much as 1000 times per day or more. If each time you switch you’re your wasting 1 second, assuming you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and 50 weeks a years, then you’re wasting almost two weeks just on switching from keyboard to mouse.
Add this to all the other techniques you’ll eventually master and all the time you can save, you could potentially be doing almost 10 times the work of the average user if not more in the same time span. Absolutely incredible if you can get that good.

So in this section we’re going to covering the different ways to input information in a cell or multiple cells, we’ll learn about table navigation, copying and pasting data, we’ll be doing some fonts again but this time with a bit more detail, I’ll also be introducing rows and columns and what they’re used for, then we will be learning about sheets and why they are such an important element and then we’ll finish off by learning about the different page views we can use like tiling. Hi everyone, the Case Study we’ll be doing is a listing of Chocolate bar sales for multiple companies. The reason I chose this case study is well because everyone loves chocolate. You’ll from the table here that it doesn’t look its best. There are gaps, some missing data and the spacing just doesn’t look right.
So what we’ll be doing is something which whenever excel files are exchanged some form of this takes place. I’m talking about data cleansing. If you’re an absolutely brand new user it will be difficult for you to distinguish between good data, bad data and then really bad data. But once you finish this course and you’re standards have increase, when you meet another person who is an average user, you’ll immediately recognise that for you to use their information you’re going to have to clean it up.
So along with the important function’s we’ll be learning here I’ll be introducing you into the world of data cleansing. Happy times so lets begin.
Hey guys. In this lecture we’ll be looking at the different ways to enter data. Now you may think this is somewhat of an unnecessary lecture. However, I beg to differ. The reason being is that each method of inputting data has its advantages and disadvantages depending on what you’re trying to do. Use the wrong method for the wrong situation and you could be spending 10 times longer than you should.
Hey guys. This lecture is more an in between lecture where I’m going to teach you a bit of a shortcut. Now when you start building tables you’ll start to notice that usually not all the cells are filled with information which is normal. Sometimes you also want to travel within the table or between tables with very little ease and without the use of the mouse. One way to do that which doesn’t include scrolling is using Control Up, Down, Left or Right.
Hey guys welcome back. In this lecture we’ll be covering the basics of copying and pasting. Now it’s hard to imagine why copying and pasting would have a basic level followed by some harder levels. The reason for this is because when you get to more advanced elements such as importing and exporting information not only to other Excel documents but also other programs, using the right copying, cutting and pasting function is essential. Unfortunately I don’t very many people take the time to learn the differences between the different types of copying and pasting which results in worksheets that worked one day, but not the next. So lets begin by doing some basics Copying, Cutting and Pasting.
Hey guys. In this lecture we’re going to start using rows and columns. Learning how to use rows and columns is an extremely useful tool in Excel. The reason is because once you start using large tables, you can easily manipulate the table by adding, deleting or moving’s rows and columns rather than individual cells. Let’s do this now for our table and clean it up.
Hey guys. Now let’s start using sheets. Now what are sheets? Sheets are basically additional pages in your workbook. Much like a book has multiple pages. In the same workbook you can have multiple pages as well, also known as sheets. You can add as many sheets as you like or basically until Excel runs out of memory. I do recommend limiting the amount of sheets you use as it can slow your computer down quite dramatically if you’re not careful. Ok so let’s begin.
Hey guys. In this lecture we’ll be learning how to rename a sheet and also how to change the colour of the tab. Now this is actually quite important because once you start using multiple sheets, you want a way of categorising them and colour is a great way to do that.
Hey guys. The last lecture we’ll be doing is moving and copying sheets. This is possibly the most important skill to master with sheets. The reason is because sometimes you have a workbook with multiple sheets but you only want to send one through an email. So instead of sending the whole document which sometimes may be too large for an email you just want to send that one sheet. Be careful though because if you have a formula in the one you separate which connects to another sheet, it may not work once you move it to a new workbook. So enough talk let’s begin.
Hey guys welcome back. Now this next trick I picked up not too long ago and has absolutely transformed the way I work. Now tiling the screen is more of a productivity tool. Now as you now know, in Excel you can have multiple sheets of information. However, sometimes you need to travel back and forth because you need information from one to put into another or you’re trying to set up a formula and so on. So what this function does is allow you to multiple sheets open from the same document. That way you don’t have to keep jumping back and forth. Might be a little bit hard to understand so let’s get to the demo.

The first one we have is the holiday planner. One of the worst things about going on a financially unplanned holiday is that first when you get there it turns out you don’t have enough money to do the things you want to do. The second is that you come back from holiday and you’ve spent way more than you wanted.
Hey guys welcome back. Now this tool I’ve created is something very similar to what I use every few days to manage my expenses. This tool will track your income and expenses to see if your spending more than you make. What I do is I record general values for my expenses and then put all my different types of income. Then when I’ve graphed this I can see if I’m financial growing or decaying. Extremely important. Nothing worse than reaching the end of the year and realizing you haven’t saved a single cent.
Hey guys welcome back. This is a fun one. Now what I’ve done here is introduced Microsoft Visual Basic for Application. This is an extra function in Excel which allows you to program excel to perform calculations for you.
Now the reason I’ve included this is to give you a quick glimpse of where you can go or what you’ll be able to do if you continue to pursue learning this program.
Hey everyone and welcome to the next section, the “If” function. The “If” function is an extremely powerful tool, not only in Excel but in many other programs as well. In fact, once you begin using this function, it is the ticket to the next level of Excel. What the “If” function does is it compares a value to different types of conditions and provides a response depending on how you value lies within those conditions. Now that sounds like a mouthful and it’s hard to picture it for the first time. But once you get it on paper, you see how the information flows it becomes so easy.
So what we’re going to do is go through this function really slowly and step by step. By the end of this section you’ll be able to write a basic “If” function with multiple conditions. The topics we’ll be covering include a detailed explanation of what Logic functions are, building your first “If” function, dealing with blanks, using the “Or” function, using the “And” function and finally finishing with using the “Greater/Less Than” function.

So what we’re going to do is use different combinations of the “If” function in order to extract data which matches the conditions or criteria that you set. What we’re going to be doing is using the first letter of your name to extract your Jamaican name. Here’s how you do it.

Now the great thing about Excel is that you can combine multiple formulas or multiple conditions in the one cell. Compared to if you did it on paper, you would have multiple lines trying to calculate one result.
Hey everyone welcome to the next lecture. Now in this lecture we’ll be doing something very similar to the “Or” function. This time we’re using the “And” function. So what is the difference between the “Or” and the “And” function. Well let’s go back to our dress example. You go back to the store to buy another dress. You go to the lady I want to buy a dress that is blue and goes all the way to my feet. Now if she comes back with a blue dress which stops at the knee well then you don’t buy it. It’s the same going the other way. If she brings back a dress that goes to the floor but is the colour orange well then you also don’t buy it. Both conditions need to be met before you buy the dress. That’s basically how the “And” function works.

Hey guys welcome to the next section. For those of you who love colourful and shiny things this section has designed for you. Here we will be learning about Charts and Graphs. What I have provided to you guys is only the original data table and what we will be doing is analysing the information and trying to find patterns in the data using graphs.
Now the ability to do this is going to prove extremely helpful in visualizing information. You see when we look at a table we see some obvious things. No matter what the data may be representing, we can see who has the most money, or the most number of goals, etc. However, the little changes in patterns are hard if not possible to visualize unless you had a tool like Excel.
What I’m going to be teaching you guys here is how to create not just visually appealing graphs and charts, but also the proper way to present them. Along with this I’ll show you how to format them and add extra information so that whoever the reader is, they can look at it and within a few moments have a general idea of what you’re trying to explain. There is nothing worse in business than getting graph and asking what does this axis represent? Is this in millions, billions or Taiwanese dollars? What do the colours mean? Or worst of all, someone who replies “what the hell am I looking at?

The table here shows their age, where they’re from, they’re current net worth and their net worth a few years. A lot of this data I made up so don’t be shocked if it’s different from what you’ve read in the papers.
So with this data we’re going to plot 4 different things. The first will be a line graph showing the Net Worth as you go down the list. The next graph will be a Scatter Plot showing the distribution of Net Worth depending on Age. This will be followed by a Column graph which compares the ages of all top earners. Lastly, we’ll be doing a part chart to show the distribution of Net Worth as a percentage.

Hey guys welcome to the next section, using Images and Shapes. Now this section isn’t as technical as some of the others. This is more of an art topic I’d say. Now just because it isn’t technical doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it seriously. Actually, this is one of the most common places of frustration. I see a lot of people who simply want to place an image into Excel and get so frustrated because they can’t shape it just right. The reason for this is because people don’t understand the basics of controlling images. Things like moving images around, or rotating them, cropping, colouring, brightness, sharpness, etc. These are fundamental tools which sad to say most of the population don’t know how to use.
So what we’ll be doing is a few examples where we will really get into how to use these basic shapes. Then how to transform these basic shapes into very colourful images as a whole. Alright guys, see you soon.

Simply from the tools they’ve used to clean the report, gives me an idea of what kind of person I’m working with.

I actually only discovered this a few months ago and the reason I discovered it was that one of my work mates has an unhealthy obsession with using capital letters for everything! So the formulas we’re about to use clean up text very efficiently.
For example, if the text in your spreadsheet, is a mixture of capital and lower case letters and there’s no consistency, you can apply these formula’s and it can make all the text lower case, upper case, or proper case which we’ll get to in a second. So let’s begin the demonstration on the days of the week.

When you do this you’re actually copying a couple of things. Firstly you’re copying the formatting from one cell into another. Next you’re copying any formulas already in the cell into a new position. Lastly you’re copying the values from one spot to another.
Hey guy’s welcome back. In this lecture we’re going to be rearranging an entire table. Now as you can see from the days of the week, they’re not in order. So in order to fix that we have to use the Sort and Filter Tool. What this tool will do is look at one parameter in your table and then alphabetise it or reorder them from highest to lowest depending on what you want. We want to reorder the days so that its in order.

Now Freeze do is allow you to split you’re screen so that you see a lot more information from different parts of the work book.
