What is the history of my personal brand?
Why did I choose to study Marketing, and what are the roles I've held?
How I've used my Personal Brand to live and work around the world.
How I built up the courage to start my own business.
Here we will uncover the 3 stages of the Personal Branding Flywheel;
I like to start with STUDY, predominantly as that is something that is completely within our control. It shouldn’t be something where you tick boxes on and then move onto the next step, studying is an ongoing process. Allowing you to learn and understand the principles of personal branding but continuing to learn and adapt your skills throughout your career. Think of the Study module as preparing your toolkit, giving you the screwdrivers, spanners, and hammer that you need to establish your brand.
Then we'll get into the SCRIBE phase. Being a scribe is the art of writing. Isn’t it funny that despite all of the transitions and developments in technology that writing still remains one of the most challenging skills? In ancient Egyptian times, Scribes, or those who kept written records were considered the most senior members of the pharaoh's inner circle. Arguably today, the scribes with their Digital marketing tools such as Newspapers, Blogs, Medium and Twitter are still considered the opinion leaders of our time. I'll introduce you to simple templates to help scribe down your values and personal statement. It will come in handy when making new introductions, networking and working on our Sharing our personal brand on digital platforms.
Lastly, we'll start to SHARE your personal brand, giving it some serious scalability online. What good is doing all this work on your personal brand if you aren’t going to share it with the world? We’ll uncover the best ways to share your personal brand and give it velocity with a number of Digital platforms: LinkedIn, Medium, Facebook, Video and more.
Think about where you are now. What’s your current situation?
Where would you say you are in the stages of your career and the journey of achieving your future ambitions?
Is there something that’s holding you back?
Is there something that you need?
Is there something you want to know more about?
In this Reflection exercise, we'll identify 3 things you want to focus on to get you from where you are now, to achieving your future ambitions.
(Make sure you write it down somewhere as we'll come back to it later)
Searching for a new job, starting your own business or building influence throughout your organisation. Personal branding is critical for everyone on of these career stages. Here we'll uncover why?
Why NOW is the most important time ever to build your personal brand?
Why do I need a Personal Brand? Everyone keeps telling me about how I need a Personal Brand....What is it and why do I need one?
Why NOW is the most important time ever to build your Personal Brand?

Mastering the 3 P’s is the foundation of building your personal brand.
Starting with your Profile - This could be your CV or in the online format it’s most likely your LinkedIn profile
Perception - Remember back to that Jeff Bezos Quote “ Your Personal Brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room”. It can be difficult to manage the perception of what people think about you but one thing you can do is be consistent, and we’ll cover that in a module shortly.
Lastly, the third P is for People. This is your network. These are the people that are going to support you, to help keep you on track and to connect with additional people.
We’ll go into each of these in more detail...
Guy Kawasaki is one of the greatest self-promoters and Marketing brand builders I can think of. He does all types of stuff.
He’s an Entrepreneur, Future Evangelist, Brand Ambassador for Mercedez Benz, Adjunct Professor of the UNSW, Author, Podcaster, and Public Speaker. One of his early claims to fame was working as Chief Evangelist working on the Macintosh computer at Apple.
Guy's latest Podcast is called Remarkable People where he takes time each week to interview interesting people and get insights on their motivations and successes. You can find it here: https://guykawasaki.com/remarkable-people/
There's a talk he's given about Evangelism on YouTube https://youtu.be/Tlx6m9H2Apc
...and if you're really interested in Evangelism you can register for his Udemy Course here: https://www.udemy.com/course/the-art-of-evangelism/
(These notes are also in the downloadable resources under Case Study 1: Arnold Schwarzenegger - Extra Resources)
Simon Sinek is an Author and Motivational Speaker. One of his early successes was his book “Start with Why” which focuses on the notion that people don’t buy what you do but why you do it. The thought for this concept came from the fact that when you ask most people what they do they tell you what and how they do it. But this misses the point. What people really want to understand is your motivation, what is that reason why people and organisations do what they do.
If you haven't seen it already I strongly recommend watching Simon Sinek's Start with Why Video:

What are you VP’s? Think of these as the cornerstones of your personal brand. They are what guide and support you.
The first V is for Vision: Your image of what you see possible for the world - your desired future.
The first P is for Purpose: Your role in turning that vision into a reality
The second V is for Values: These are the ideals or operating principles that determine how you act. How you conduct your day to day activities. Your values are true to you and you do not compromise them.
The second P is for Passion: This is what motivates and energises you. Your passions get you out of bed in the morning. As a leader, this is a “pure unadulterated tenacity” to drive your passion.
Credit goes to Peter Sterlacci for sharing these insights on VP's: https://theundercoverrecruiter.com/build-personal-brand/
Perception: We've talked quite a lot about this and particularly how you can't always control it.
However, after watching this short video you'll have a couple of ideas of how you can at least influence how people perceive you.
On the negative side of Perception is Fear, and these two are often closely related.
Perception is one of the biggest fears people have about Personal branding
"I’m an introvert", "I’m not a people person", "I don’t like public speaking"
These are all some of the most common fears you may experience or come across in others. Why? Because we care about what other people think about us.
There's even a term called Glossophobia which according to Wikipedia means speech anxiety, or the fear of public speaking. The word glossophobia derives from the Greek γλῶσσα glōssa, meaning tongue, and φόβος phobos, fear or dread. Some people have this specific phobia, while others may also have broader social phobia or social anxiety disorder
The Last P of the 3 P’s is People - and in this case it’s your network.
Who are the people that you have studied with, worked with, and socialised with that are going to help support you and your vision?
It can be difficult to know where to start but even if you are just embarking on your career you want to identify some keywords that will help identify you. Finding your Genius Zone is an exercise you can employ to do that. It’s basically a Venn diagram to identify keywords of what you’re good at. There’s even a list to help you get started...
Now this is a fun practical exercise to help you with finding your future self. We’ll start by calling back on the goals and things you’d like to achieve in your professional life. Using Visualisation techniques you’ll be able to put yourself in that future state and identify what it looks like, how it feels and who is there with you. This technique is used by professional athletes when training for a big event and I’m sure you’ll get something out of it too!
This is an on-screen demonstration of how to complete your Personal Branding Statement
Here we reflect after creating your Personal Branding Statement. What could you do with this statement to help promote and build you Personal Brand. Here are a few suggestions...
Linkedin is by far the largest business professionals network with over 663m users worldwide. It’s home to over 10 million jobs and 9 million companies. Think of it as as an e-version of your BIO crossed with job postings and a trade magazine.
Now let's have a look at the types of people on LinkedIn.
If you're going to invest any time on LinkedIn I'd strongly recommend spending a bit of time thinking about your audiences. Who are people that follow your aspirations and inspire you?
Here's a tune-up for your LinkedIn profile. Get it set up properly so it can start working for you and your Personal Brand.
Using LinkedIn as a tool can be a powerful way to extend your network. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you don’t know but aspire to have within your network. And remember, a compliment can go a long way...
Here we'll review the content writing platform Medium. It can serve as both a source of inspiration and a place for sharing your thoughts. In fact, if you're good at it, there may be even an opportunity to earn some revenue from writing.

Have you been thinking about a startup or launching your business in Asia?
Steal some ideas from Adam's story as an Entrepreneur, Founder and Marketing Professional living in Sydney, London and Seoul, South Korea.
Imagine traveling the world, being greeted as an authority in your industry, and rubbing shoulders with inspirational business leaders like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
This might seem like a pipe-dream. But the truth is this lifestyle isn’t as hard to achieve as you may think...
The secret is building a powerful personal brand that follows you wherever you go… and now, there’s never been a more important time to have one. In today’s information economy we’re all drowning in data.
We live in a time where everybody now shares their lives online, and the last thing you want is to end up as another blur in an endless newsfeed.
I encourage you to stand up and take ownership of how the world perceives you. To proactively curate your brand, making sure you stand out for doing the things that you're passionate about.
The problem, of course, is knowing how to build your personal brand in the most effective way possible. And, hopefully, that's where I can help….
My name is Adam O’Neill, and over the past two decades, I’ve been lucky enough to have lived and worked all over the world meeting business leaders of the stature of Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Paul Allen. I've also spearheaded advertising campaigns for many of the world's top brands, including Red Bull, Rolex, LG Electronics, and Unilever.
Time and again, I’ve leveraged my own personal brand whenever I've needed to forge new connections, grow influence within my organisation, and most recently gain more visibility for my own business.
In this course, I'll be teaching you how to get similar results through a simple methodology I've used to create thousands of marketing campaigns for big multinational brands, and which will help superpower your own personal brand.
By the end, you'll know exactly what it takes to rise above the noise and break into circles that, at first sight, seem impossible to access.
You'll also gain the confidence to clearly articulate your personal brand in any situation you encounter and to connect with the sorts of people who could powerfully support your vision.
Unlike other courses on personal branding, this one won't shower you with endless theory that leaves you adrift in the real world.
I'll give you a simple and actionable framework that uses visualisation techniques, networking tools, and communication skills needed to bring your own personal brand and vision to life.
