In this first video you will find the introduction of the Course. You will learn that the course is divided into three sections. Each section is based on an Study, which is a musical composition designed to help you master a specific guitar skill. In this course, that guitar skill is the Percussive Hit. At first you will learn only one percussive hit in each study. As you develop the technique of that specific hit, you will simultaneously learn a musical composition. The result is a fun an easy way to learn!
We will learn how to play the LSS hit. LSS is the acronym for "Lower Strings Snare". Hitting the lower strings of the guitar with our thumb. We will produce a sound similar to a snare drum. The sound can be described as a percussive "tick" as well.
In this lesson we will combine the LSS hit with some arpeggios.
We will practice the LSS hit with a different picking pattern.
Now, you are ready to play "By the Sea" Level I
At the Level II of "By the Sea" we will improve the arrangement by adding a melody. In addition we will introduce a completely new section to the song.
At this level we enhance the song with new chords, new picking patterns, and some other techniques, like using the thumb to fret the sixth string over the neck.
BD is the acronym for "Bass Drum". We are looking to create a sound similar to the kick of the drums. We will produce this sound by hitting the top of the guitar above the soundhole.
Let's go to "The Duel" Level I. Here we will put into practice the technique used in exercise 2.1 (a).
In "The Duel" Level II we are using the BD technique in conjunction with the sixth string, like we did in the exercise 2.1 (c).
The HOLE technique is very similar to some Flamenco Techniques, where the top of the guitar is hit to produce a high-pitched percussive sound with a "wood" character.
The Harp Harmonics or Right-Hand Harmonics are produced using a single one hand: the picking hand. It produces a very beautiful and ethereal effect.
In "The Duel" Level III we expand the theme with some new chords. We will use the BD technique in conjunction with two lower strings of the guitar.
Bassists have used the Slap technique for a long time. Now it is our turn to use Slap with our acoustic guitar.
In this study we use the Slap technique playing a bass line of a 12-bar blues. Remember to use the muting techniques that we learned in the previous exercises.
Here we add the BD technique, creating a typical Rock Drum Pattern: Kick-Snare-Kick-Snare.
Here we add more melodic movement while we keep the bass line steady.
No matter what your level or your favorite style, you'll enjoy playing your guitar like never before! Expand the boundaries of your guitar playing with "The Percussive Acoustic Guitar Method". Miguel Rivera, master guitarist, composer and instructor guides you step by step through the most avant-garde techniques: slap, snare hit, bass drum hit, top hit, natural harmonics and harp harmonics. The videos fully demonstrate both the exercises and the progressively challenging compositions.
