Welcome to The Essence of Birth Course! I'm so glad you are here. I trust that as you work through this content you will discover a strength, courage, and confidence within you greater than you could ever have imagined.
Birth support is personal, it's intimate, it's raw and real. Building a relationship with families as a doula is key in creating the reassurance and safety each mom deserves in her birth. I'm sharing my story (of my three births) with you in hopes that it will give you an extra dose of confident and courageous as you step into your own birth.
Our culture tells a story of fear around birth; and often the birth stories we read about and hear reinforce that narrative. There really is a different narrative we can tell -- one of confidence and courage, one of excitement and empowerment. This video invites you to start shaping a new narrative for birth.
Understanding the way our minds work in labor is foundational to establishing a positive mindset and in turn creating a narrative for your own birth that aligns with what you truly wish and hope for.
Our mindset shapes our thoughts, which shape our actions, which create our experiences. The way you think about and perceive labor shapes the way you will experience it. Let's work on establishing a mindset that helps you have a shorter, less painful, and more positive birth experience.
Now that we've established a mindset that empowers and evokes courage and confidence we'll define the practical ways you can prepare for labor to make that mindset a reality.
Labor is rhythmic! When you match the rhythm of labor with your own coping rhythm contractions become far more manageable. We'll talk about creating rhythms for your body, mind, and heart and bundling them together to get into a rhythmic flow.
Early labor is marked by excitement. Distraction and rest are key to navigating early labor.
Active labor is marked by focus. Anchoring yourself with rhythmic coping techniques are key to navigating active labor.
Pushing is marked by resolve. Listening to your body and working with it are key to navigating pushing.
Your birth will be uniquely yours. I invite you to embrace your strengths and allow yourself to experience your birth in your own way -- because it is yours.
Whenever your presented with information in labor take a moment and PAUSE. Ask two questions "What are my options?" and "Can we have a minute to think about it" Taking a moment to way out your options will help you take ownership your your birth experience.
Staying present in the moment (not mindful of time) helps managing through labor easier.

Hi there, I'm Ema
Encouraging women to trust and believe in their body and its ability to intuitively and naturally birth their baby brings me such joy.
The empowering feelings of confidence and courage that comes with the experience of birth few experiences can match.
Having had my own personal journey of empowerment–finding courage and confidence despite my own fears in birthing my three children–awakened a desire and passion in me to share that with as many moms as I possible can; and I have over the past 10+ years as a birth doula.
