Note: This video contains a big amount of new vocabulary. Feel free to split it in smaller portions in order to make it easier for you or choose the words you find most important and try to learn only those. Come back to this video later if you want to repeat the vocabulary.
In this lesson you will learn about all the different situations where we use the Accusative Case in Russian.
To summarise, we use the Accusative case:
1. To express direction with the verbs of motion (Я иду на работу.)
2. In the following constructions to express time:
- Как долго? (without a preposition): Я работал неделю.
- За какое время? (with the preposition за): За этот месяц я похудел на 5 килограммов.
- На какое время? (with the preposition на): Я хочу взять отпуск на неделю.
- For specifying time or day (with the preposition в): в следующую пятницу, в среду, в два...
- After the preposition через: через неделю, через месяц ...
- If we change our plans: Мы перенесли встречу с вторника на среду.
3. The Accusative case denotes the direct object (Я жду друга. Она покупает платье.)
4. The following prepositions govern the Accusative case: в, на, по (only when it comes to time), за, несмотря на, под, про, сквозь, спустя, через.
This lesson is about verbs of motion with different prefixes.
A prefix in front of a basic verb of motion mainly indicates the direction of movement and sometimes the duration of movement.
The most important thing you need to take out of this lesson is the meaning of different prefixes and the meaning of most frequently used verbs of motion with prefixes.
The examples at the end of the lesson are there to give you an idea of different usage of these verbs of motion. Don’t try to learn them by heart or spend too much time on them, as some of them include more advanced vocabulary. If you however want to go deeper into the examples, please refer to the PDF Vocabulary List for this section to see their meaning.
If you find the examples too complex it is totally okay to skip them for now.
Please note that this lesson contains many new words. Please focus only on the ones you find most useful. It can be 15-20 new words or a number you are comfortable with. Come back to this video later to expand your vocabulary.

Among other useful words and phrases, this lesson includes a guide for buying Russian train tickets online. I hope you will find it useful in case you need to use the Russian Railways. It is also recommended to listen to the text even if you don’t plan to buy train tickets, as it is going to be a good practice for your ear. Otherwise feel free to skip this guide and focus on the parts of the video that you find most useful.

I’m here to help you do the same.
Learning a foreign language is a process which requires dedication, time and a lot of practice. Remember that regularity is the key, so make sure to keep the streak and dedicate a couple of minutes every day to finish at least one lesson of the course.
