Starting a blank form

• Make it pretty and professional!

Title and description

• Main form title and description must be filled in.
• Can add description to any field by clicking on the Tt button
• You cannot format text in the description but you can use links in shortened or full length format that can be clicked on and linked to sources outside of the form.

Short answer questions involve

  • Emails
  • Addresses
  • Values
  • More…
• Validate email
• Validate number

When and how to use paragraph answer questions

• For longer text
• Data validation for length and regular expression are the only validations you can use due to the length.

When and how to use multiple choice questions

• The default for questions on forms
• Lets you list options and have users select only one
• You can also have the form jump to a new section based on the answer and we will cover why you would want this in another video later in the course.

When and how to use checkbox questions

• Similar to multiple choice, but users can select as many as they want
• Good when there are multiple correct answers on a quiz
• Can use data validation to ensure users select a certain number of boxes

When and how to use dropdown questions

• My personal favorite because it allows you to keep the form more compact when there are a large amount of responses that the user can choose from.
• Very popular with respondents who are using their cell phone to respond to a form.
• Downside, in the classroom when evaluating quiz answers kids will not easily be able to compare and eliminate choices.

When and how to use linear scale questions

• Also called the likert scale, this allows your respondents to choose inside a range.
• Default range is 1-5 but you can expand it to 1-10

When and how to use multiple choice grid questions

• Probably the most confusing to create but a very useful tool
• Build a main question that extended to multiple items
• Once you have the main question, put the multiple items down the left side of the check box, and the available answers down the right side.
• Preview it after you complete to ensure it lines up the way you envisioned.

Date and time

• If you want to ask for a specific date and/or time then this type of question will allow you to restrict the answer to a specific date and time format that you need.

How to organize your form

• It is easy to get caught up adding every question under the sun to your survey but that can discourage users from wanting to continue and finish a form if half of it doesn’t apply to them.  This is where sections and logic come in.
• Try to game plan this ahead of time so that you can create all of your sections and then go back and create your questions.
• By creating sections, you can have 1 form do it all for a variety of users

Mapping out your form using Google Forms built in logic

• Examples of uses for this will be provided in this lesson:
  
  • Feedback and retraining.  If a person answers a question wrong on a quiz or training evaluation, they can be sent to a section that provides them feedback and additional exercises to continue to work on the skill.
  • Breaking down a longer form into logical bite sized sections so users don’t have to scroll forever
  • Making a workflow based on answers to questions.
  • To send respondents to a section that relates to their particular needs

Exporting to Google Sheets.  In this lesson you will learn how to:

• Create a new sheet based on form name
• Send the data to a combined or shared Sheet

• I will demonstrate downloading csv and then opening it with Apple Numbers and Microsoft Excel.

Google Forms Add-On's

• Add On's are products you purchase (usually for free) from the Chrome web store that add functionality to your form that does not exist in the standard Google Form
• I will show you where to go to find forms and how to add them to your forms
• Once an add on is added to a form it exists for use in all forms you create.

Google Forms Add-On's applied

• I will show you how to use "Certify'em" add-on to create professional certificates once your form users complete your form and receive the required grade.
• I will show you how to add a new contact to your Google contacts using "Contact Addition" add-on.
• I will show you how to limit responses to a form so you don't get more data than you want using the "Form Limiter" add-on.
