Have you done everything "right"? Followed the rules, kept the peace, tried to make everyone happy - and still ended up feeling ignored, resentful, or like you somehow made things worse? What if there was another way?
There's a real, learnable formula for getting the results you want and we're going to walk through it together. Here, we'll take a quick look at how this course is structured and what to expect from each part.
These are the foundations to The Assertiveness Formula
Before we can understand what assertiveness is - let's talk about what it's not, because oftentimes this gets confused with something else. Aggression, passivity, passive-aggression, manipulation: these are not assertive approaches and they will not work out well in the long run, if at all.
In Part 1, we'll explore a real working definition of assertiveness, one that goes way beyond just "speaking up." You'll understand why it's the most effective approach to any interpersonal situation and what it can do for your relationships, your confidence, and your sense of self when you start putting it into practice.
Now we're cooking. The assertiveness formula itself breaks down into six concrete steps, each one handles a vital piece of communication in a tough conversation.
We'll learn how to acknowledge the other person, describe experiences without inflaming things, express your feelings in a way that actually lands, share your interpretation, say clearly what you want, and if it comes to it, lay out what happens next.
By the end of Part 2, you'll have a simple, adaptable statement you can take into real situations and actually use.
Knowing the steps is one thing. Using them when you're in the middle of a difficult conversation is another. In Part 3, we get into everything you'll want to do before, during, and after a difficult conversation.
How do you get clear on what you're feeling? How do you figure out what you actually want? How do you even get the other person to sit down and talk in the first place? We work through all of it, with real examples that demonstrate how the formula plays out in situations most of us will recognize. This is where it stops being theoretical and starts becoming actionable.
Things won't always go smoothly, so let's be prepared for that.
Someone raises their voice. You get caught off guard. The other person shuts down or just won't engage.
In Part 4, we walk through seven of the most common obstacles you'll run into when you start practicing assertiveness, and we give you real ways to handle each one without losing your footing. The goal was never a perfect conversation every time. It's knowing how to stay in it when things get messy so you come out the other side with what you need.
One of the trickiest parts of assertiveness is knowing what you actually feel before you walk into a hard conversation. A lot of us don't. We know something's wrong, but we can't name it, and that makes it nearly impossible to communicate clearly.
That's where the body scan comes in. It's a simple practice where you slow down, get quiet, and put your attention into your body, moving through it part by part and noticing what's there. Tightness in your chest, a knot in your stomach, tension in your jaw: your body is usually registering your emotions before your brain catches up. The body scan helps you close that gap.
By the time you're done, you'll have a much clearer sense of what you're actually feeling and why, which means you'll be a lot more prepared to say it out loud when it counts.
Most of us were never taught how to ask for what we want. We either push too hard, back down too easily, or tie ourselves in knots trying to keep everyone happy - and none of it works. The result? We end up feeling ignored, underappreciated, or quietly resentful, wondering why doing everything "right" still isn't getting us anywhere.
The Assertiveness Formula is a practical, step-by-step course that gives you a real tool for navigating the conversations that matter most. You'll learn exactly what assertiveness is and why it actually works, how to use a six-step formula to say what you mean without damaging your relationships, how to prepare for difficult conversations before they happen, and how to stay grounded when things don't go according to plan.
And unlike aggression, manipulation, or just hoping things work themselves out, assertiveness is an approach that tends to make everyone feel better, not just you. It builds trust, strengthens relationships, and over time, genuinely improves how you feel about yourself and the world around you. The good news is that it's a skill, and like any skill, it can be learned.
Assertiveness is one of the best paths for obtaining that which you truly desire.
