The Art of Stone Carving

Chisel the design on stone with knife.

This is the basic and most crucial step to start with carving.

As the name says, you will mark the levels for sculpting.

In this lecture, you will learn how to scratch away the useless chunk of stone to create the background.

We start refining the design on the stone, starting with the petals of the flower. In this process, you will learn various carving techniques to give overlapping look and depth to the petal.

In this lecture, we will complete refining the whole flower.

We will scrape a layer and make the leaves go below the flower by giving gradual slope. Also, veins has to be below the flower but raised above the leaves to give a realistic appearance.

In this lecture, we will deepen the portion by cross hatching and scratching pattern, giving a defined look.

We will polish each and every section and file the sharp edges of the mural with sand paper .

In this lecture, you will learn to prepare a paste and apply it on the pores of the mural.

Apply two coats of water to the mural before we start coloring.

We will give a thin watery base coat of white emulsion color.

We will cover up all the grey spots of stone completely by giving a thick coat of white color.

We will apply diluted oil paint onto the whole mural with our choice of color scheme.

We will create a unique style of shading which is possible only with oil paints.

Now that we are done with the coloring, we will give two to three coats of clear lacquer spray and varnish the mural.
