Numbers have impact on: business, family, workplaces, and places of worship; as well as in politics and many other aspects of life. Today, numbers are more golden to business than ever before. In fact, this is what Pythagoras means when he avers that: numbers rule the universe. Mankind largely survives on numbers. On a daily basis, we count, score, measure, tally and sort things. We are equally involved in adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying things; intentionally or un intentionally.
Colleagues, 12% of the world adult population are numerically literate? (Enormous Global Literacy Study, 2013). This being the number that is able to add, subtract, divide, multiply; and in addition read and interpret charts, tables, graphs, financial statements and related information. On the contrary, 88% of adults struggle to comprehend the same.
“Numbers do not lie,” unless they have been “manipulated,” “cooked” or “doctored”, therefore, what is the situation in 2020, certainly there is improvement but it has not significantly, changed.

This means that 88% is unable to comprehend the above. This is why Pythagoras avers that numbers rule the universe, while Bill Gates affirms that numbers are a fundamental precept for business. This course is therefore dedicated to the foundation of practical application of numbers in real life situations.

c. The Philosopher Plato emphatically stated that “Numbers are the highest degree of knowledge: It is knowledge itself.”
