A welcome from Dr. Zack
Whatever treatment you are using, inevitably begins with some form of assessment. In Three Pillars or Integrative Attachment Therapy (IAT), we have a few different methods and options for patients, depending on their needs and their resources.
As we evolve from the original "Three Pillars" developed in 2016, there have been some modifications and additions to the treatment to keep it up to date with current clinical research.
Continuing from the first lecture, we detail the process of IPF and collaboratively exploring the 5 qualities with the patient.
Dr. Zack does a demonstration of an IPF session where he lays the foundation for the 5 qualities in the ideal parents.
The 2nd Pillar of 3 Pillars Therapy is Building and Enhancing Metacognitive Abilities. There are a number of ways that clinicians can help patients gain coherence and improve their reflective functioning, which in turns improves metacognition.
Play as a child is highly correlated with exploration as an adult. The securely attached child feels supported and safe to explore and play, following their intuition and learning that they have agency and autonomy and confidence. Children who are insecurely attached have impairments in this type of play, because it is impossible to freely play if you are preoccupied with parents and what mood they're in, or if it's safe to just play.
Activations were not discussed in the original text from Brown & Elliott (2016). However, they will be an integral component of Integrative Attachment Therapy going forward.
Dr. Zack demonstrates how to work with activations using the IPF method.
In this course, students will advance their knowledge of Adult Attachment Theory by examining the most recent of treatments in the field. The Three Pillar model by Brown/Elliott was called a "breakthrough in treatment," by Psychology Today magazine. This course examines the Three Pillar model in depth and is a continuation of Level 1. Students who took Level 1 and are interested in advancing their knowledge are ideal candidates for this course. It is suitable for clinicians and non-clinicians alike. Dr. Zack takes complex psychological material and translates it in a way that feels attainable to the non-academic.
You will have a complete understanding of the 3 pillar method following the completion of this class.
You will understand the manifestations of Adult Attachment styles.
You will see case studies and examples of the use of the 3 pillars model
You will understand the importance of mentalizing in development of metacognitive capacities, which is the 2nd pillar.
You will be able to interact and ask questions of your professor
Using video, powerpoint, articles, guided imagery exercises, and other supplemental material, it is understandable to people with different learning styles
This course contains all of the up to date changes and additions to 3 Pillar therapy
