Dr Lisa Ackerman introduces you to the main themes of the course.
This lecture focuses on WHY looking at training from your dog's perspective is crucial to your training success in everyday situations. The theme of this lecture is based around several critical facts relating to dogs.
This lecture further explores the concept outlined in Lecture 2 by looking at the principles of GUARDIANSHIP, in particular, WHY the modern dog trainer should adopt the mindset of a GUARDIAN. This lecture compares two specific mindsets - a dog 'owner' versus a dog GUARDIAN and the implications that each mindset has on the physical and mental health and welfare of dogs.
The aim of this resource is to enable you to put into practice the mindset of a GUARDIAN i.e. to be able to anticipate situations that may not have a pleasant outcome for your dog or others and know when you should calmly and safely divert your dog away from them, or avoid them. This lecture is based on the canine body language ‘clues’ of stress and anxiety that you may see in everyday situations including dog training.
This lecture focuses on the concept of promoting calm behaviour in your dog within the context of training as well as everyday situations. This lecture outlines WHY being calm is the most important behaviour that your dog will ever learn and how this relates to our dog's emotional state. More about our dog's emotional state will be discussed in the remaining Lectures. Specific strategies to help promote calm behaviour as well as the specific benefits of promoting calm behaviour is also discussed.
This Lecture focuses on Dr Lisa Ackerman's UNIQUE training concept, the 'REWARD LOOP', and WHY this is one of the most powerful training techniques that will help our dogs to live, as well as train, in harmony with their human families. Dr Lisa also illustrates this concept and explains how you can easily incorporate this technique into your everyday lifestyle.
This lecture revisits the concept of the 'REWARD LOOP' and illustrates how this is used to manage your dog's 'undesirable' behaviour in everyday situations... PLUS the two powerful outcomes of the 'REWARD LOOP' relating to both your dog and YOU.
This lectures outlines WHY it is crucial for humans to understand our dog's emotional state, how this relates to our dog's behaviour, and why this concept is the key to helping your dog to live, as well as train, in harmony with their human family.
This lecture outlines Dr Lisa's 5 POINT TRAINING CHECKLIST using a real world example - the request to 'sit'. Dr Lisa also discusses WHY every training session you do with your dog is UNIQUE.
How do you feel about your dog?
If you are feeling frustration, resentment or anger towards your dog because of their 'undesirable' behaviour - you think your dog 'never listens' to you, or your dog barks at the postman, is reactive on leash around other dogs, barks at the gate, digs holes in the garden, chews up the furniture, chews up your shoes and other 'unapproved' items, barks at anyone walking past the house, barks when the front doorbell rings or someone visits, gets overexcited, jumps up onto you when you come home, jumps up onto people when they visit, etc., etc., then THANK YOUR DOG because you are sitting on the edge of an amazing BREAKTHROUGH... a breakthrough that will enable you to understand WHY your dog is performing behaviour that you find 'undesirable'.
By making the first choice to UNDERSTAND YOUR DOG and look at training from your dog's perspective, you will be able to find answers in everyday situations where your dog is performing 'undesirable' behaviour because you will be asking the RIGHT questions. You will also FREE YOURSELF from placing unrealistic expectations on your dog, judging your dog, and blaming your dog. Instead, you will understand how to help your dog to live, as well as train, in harmony with their human family... WHICH IS YOU.
