Analyze reference images to guide texturing with rust, stains, peeling paint, gloss, and decals. Build a mood board and apply realistic textures in Maya and Substance Painter.
Prepare the file model, unwrap UVs, and create high-res and low-res meshes to bake normal maps; use Substance Painter to texture and bake curvature, ambient occlusion, and cavity maps.
Prepare Maya files for baking textures, optimize UV layouts with UDIM and multi-map textures, and balance 4k or 8k details against system performance using 2k-to-4k textures.
Learn to bake textures from a high-poly to a low-poly mesh, preserve detail, and avoid proximity errors, with proper file preparation and UV/topology considerations for normal maps in Substance Painter.
Learn the basic setup in substance painter using the PBR metallic roughness workflow, create a new project, configure UDIMs, and bake textures from high to low poly.
Texture the aircraft in Maya and Substance Painter by layering glossy aluminum, a painted nonmetallic layer, and rust details; define ID masks, use material presets, and adjust roughness for realism.
Paint the roughness layer on the aircraft in Maya and Substance Painter using a grunge map in the roughness channel, adjusting opacity to create varied brassy and glossy patches.
Export all texture maps from Substance Painter to Maya for the look development workflow of a hard surface aircraft, including base color, roughness, normal, metallic, specular, and converted maps.
Course Information:
This course is third course of Series How to Texture 3D Aircraft Model in Maya & Substance Painter which provides an overview of Texturing, and Exporting Textures for Rendering 3D graphics in the production. Beginning with a tour of the interface, Animation Hacks shows what we will learn how to generate in ColorID map in Autodesk Maya. With the high poly model and the generated maps, we now can modify our basemesh to use it as Lowpoly. After we have created the low poly object, we will export the low poly to Substance Painter and generate color and textures. The course also demonstrates how to create and edit basic texture, the material effect on surfaces, and apply smart materials and textures.
More about the Instructor:
This course is designed by Animation Hacks which is the visual effect studio with high-quality skill artist work on numerous unannounced projects. In addition, they enjoy sharing their knowledge with those students who learn 3D online.
