Description

Suicide is, unfortunately, all too common across the world. Most of us will come into contact with friends, family or workmates who are feeling suicidal at some point in our lives. That's why it's so important for us all to have at least a base knowledge of suicide and what leads to suicidal thoughts & behaviours.

In this course, we will look at the main signs & symptoms of suicidal behaviour and emotional distress. We'll cover an effective action plan to help people when they're feeling suicidal, as well as useful referral options and ideas for self-care.

In this course, we'll complete the following aims:

- Understand what suicide is.

- Understand the signs and symptoms of emotional distress.

- Discuss risk factors which could lead to suicidal thoughts and/ or behaviours.

- Understand the impact of substance abuse on mental health & suicidal tendencies.

- Learn how to support someone in a crisis - we'll look at a simple but effective action plan that you can follow.

- Be able to start a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts.

- Understand stigma within suicide and mental health.

- Identify our own attitudes to suicide & potential personal barriers to overcome.

- Learn signposting & referral options to support those who need it most.

- Understand the need for effective self-care & ways to fulfil this.
