Students learn slang and idioms taken from an American movie
What you'll learn
- Learn slang and idioms found in an American movie.
Requirements
- Best for students at an intermediate or advanced level in English.
- A desire to learn how Americans really speak.
- Buying or renting the movie would be useful, but not necessary.
- To learn and to have fun!
Description
It is a full intermediate to advanced course.
This course includes practice materials for all 4 parts of the movie.
This course includes summaries of the movie Father of The Bride (1991) with Steve Martin. It does not include the movie itself or any video clips of the movie. It would be ideal to buy or rent a copy of the movie, but it is not necessary. You will still benefit from the course.
The summary shows how the idioms, phrasal verbs, and expressions were used in the movie. It gives the definition for each one. The exercises and conversations show the idioms and expressions used in a different context. There are multiple choice exercises, fill in the blank exercises, and practice conversations. Students will see and hear the idioms, phrasal verbs, and expressions used in the context of the movie. Students will also hear them used in a new context. The idea is repetition and reinforcement in a new context.
If you are able to buy a copy of the movie, watch part 1 after completing the practice materials for Part 1 (from the beginning of the movie to 36 minutes). Then after completing all the materials for Part 2, watch part 2 of the movie (from 26 min. to 53 min.). And then do the same for Part 3 & 4.
Enjoy the course!
