This video introduces you to the purpose and essence of the course. You will understand the inherent problems in dealing with muscle and joint pain such as low back pain, and the problems in navigating our health care maze. You are starting on the path to wisdom about your pains and preventing and recovering from these pains. You will learn the answers.
This video explains the sources of our pain and explains that much of our pain is not from what we might think from absorbing the prevalent media. Disk herniation, rotator cuff tear, and torn meniscus are statistically very insignificant as causes of our pains compared to muscle and ligament pain. How this pain comes about and what we should do to prevent and recover from it are discussed in this video.
As human beings we are more complex than we might think. This video addresses our pain and the potential sources of our pain. In order to find a solution and resolution for our pain we must first know its source.
The prevalent information blast is that low back pain has to be caused by disk herniation, knee pain has to be caused by torn meniscus, neck pain has to be caused by disk herniation, and shoulder pain has to be caused by rotator cuff tear. For most people, nothing could be further from the truth. The most prevalent causes of our pain are discussed here.
This video continues the discussion of muscle and joint pain, where it comes from, how we can better understand it, and what we should be doing to prevent and recover from it.
If you have neck pain, are wondering what to do about it, who to see, what type of treatment to get, or if you have been given a diagnosis like disk herniation, then this video is for you. Watch this video and you will gain wisdom regarding neck pain, where it comes from, what to do about it, and how to avoid joining the morass of people getting tests, treatments, procedures, and surgeries they would be better without.
When almost anyone today talks about their shoulder pain they say they have a rotator cuff problem. This has become in vogue. But the 4 muscles making up the rotator cuff are but one of many causes for shoulder pain, and for some reason, the other common sources of shoulder pain are not in the vernacular of the typical person with shoulder pain. This video brings wisdom to the discussion of shoulder pain, diagnosis, and treatment, and is essential for anyone with shoulder pain or looking to understand shoulder pain.
Wrist pain is common for people who do manual labor, extensive housework, and repetitive computer work. The label of the day for these people is "carpal tunnel syndrome." But few people using this term know what they are really talking about. They don't know that "carpal" means "wrist." There are many sources of wrist pain, and most wrist pain can be helped to resolve without surgery. If you have wrist or hand pain, then this video is for you.
Knee pain is the most common affliction after low back pain. Arthroscopy of the knee is thought to be a cure-all and is abundantly performed. Yet the New York Times taking after the New England Journal of Medicine on three occasions reported that arthroscopy of the knee is mostly a waste because in double-blind studies patients treated without arthroscopy fared no worse. There are specific indications for arthroscopy, and only then is arthroscopy appropriate. Knee pain has many sources and understanding and wisdom along with self-management will go a long way. This video gives you that power.
Many patients have complex severe pain involving many muscles, joints, and body parts. Often the pain occurs with no definable reason. Patients and doctors are at a loss to explain or treat this pain. It can be totally crippling. Fibromyalgia can occur after after years of abuse of the body at work or play, or after years of limited use and motion. It is crucial to have an understanding of the muscles and joints and how to move them fully every day. They must be reeducated. If you have inexplainable pain or already have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, then this video is for you.
When unrelenting pain occurs many people are lost to know where they should go for help when self-management becomes difficult. The primary care physician, internist, orthopedic surgeon, neurologist, neurosurgeon, anesthesia pain doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, acupuncturist, physiatrist, emergency room, and urgent care center are all available to see you and will not turn you away. But who really knows what you need and who is the best choice for you? This video will help you with this common dilemma.
Radiographic imaging and the service of the radiologist are the focus of this video. If you encounter muscle and joint pain you are bound to undergo X-Rays and possibly, and even probably today, will experience an MRI or even several. The important questions to ask are what do these studies really mean for you, and when are they necessary and appropriate to have done, and even, are they always necessary. This course will answer these questions and even discusses how getting an MRI can lead to unnecessary procedures and surgery.
Each type of pain we experience has many potential sources. Each pain we experience also has many potential pathways for treatment with many potential treating doctors and many potential treating specialties. This video helps you sort this all out.
Sometimes the doctor is put on a pedestal and he and his patients can turn him into an all-knowing god who never gets sick. But the truth is that the doctor is just another regular human being who experiences all the frailties of man. I live a healthy life. I pray regularly, eat healthy mostly fruits, vegetables, and fish, exercise regularly in the gym, playing tennis, rollerblading, or swimming and jogging at the beach, and avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Yet, unexpectedly I have experienced many orthopedic and rheumatological conditions. By dealing with these conditions as a patient, I have learned invaluable truths in conjunction with my medical training and practice experience. In this video I share my experiences with you.
There are various injections in use to mitigate and even resolve muscle and joint pain. Steroid injections are most common for both localized muscle pain and joint pain, and another common injectable is hyalgan or synvisc which is used for joint pain and arthritis. These injections are an invasive procedure and must be performed properly for the right condition and by the right professional who is well-trained in these injection techniques. If injected for the wrong problem, or in the wrong place, or by an inexperienced professional, the result could be disastrous with even increased and even severe pain. When done appropriately for the right problem, a steroid injection can provide miraculous permanent relief of certain problems. Not all steroid injections are alike. A steroid such as kenalog or celestone is commonly used and you should make sure your doctor also uses lidocaine and marcaine numbing medicine in the injection concoction to give short and long-lasting relief from the pain of the injection. If you have muscle or joint pain and nothing seems to give relief, yet injection has not been tried, you may be a candidate and this video is for you.
A pearl is a hard to find precious natural creation. In this video and the next I give you pearls that you will not find too many other places, and they are valuable for everyone.
This video is a continuation of the previous one and offers you pearls of wisdom when it comes to your navigation of our healthcare system. It is worthwhile for everyone.
Many people are very familiar and sometimes knowledgeable about their "things." But when it comes to their body parts they think they need a doctor. Exercise is kind of like dieting when we look at how the public understands their exercise needs. They tend to think that any exercise is adequate and good just like there are so many diet fads. But no, one's exercise progam should be catered to their specific needs, and their specific history of exercise, athletics, sports participation, and injuries and pain. This video will help you do that and discusses personalizing your exercise program.
This video bridges the earlier videos which empower you with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to prevent, conquer, and defeat pain, with the next set of videos which empower you with a total body full range of motion stretching routine. The exercise routine is separated by key muscle-joint groupings so that it becomes easier to learn and practice. The combined wisdom and action package is a power punch for you to live and practice daily to always have the tools to be the victor over any pain you may encounter.
Your posture is how you hold yourself-how you carry your body. Your posture is so very important that a healthy posture is a key tool in your battle against pain, and a poor posture can be the cause of your pain. You should hold your spine erect without slouching or drooping. And breathing is how we take in the number one nutrient we need for our survival and which energizes and cleanses our bodies. Oxygen, O2, needs to be delivered as a package to every cell in our body so that we can function healthfully. Surely knowing how to take a deep breath to move all working parts fully and to exhale completely are an important exercise for us in our day. Healthy posture and healthy breathing are foundational keys to good pain-free health.
You have had your neck for as many years as you have been on this planet. But chances are you know more about your clothes, your cell phone, your watch, glasses, and car than you do about your neck. Do you know how to demonstrate full range of motion of your neck. Do you know that their are six ranges of motion of the neck as there are with the low back? These are simple motion routines that I strongly believe we should be taught as children when we learn to brush our teeth. In fact, just as everyone owns and uses a toothbrush, I would call this course the "toothbrush and toothpaste" of the musculoskeletal system. Learn the full range of motion routine for your neck taught in this video and you are well on your way to knowing how to do the full body routine.
Your shoulders are complicated mechanical machines which move in many ways and directions. They are the link-pin to moving and controlling your arms and hands. You can learn this video for completeness and further education, or if you are good with the previous video, then you can just as well skip this video.

For example, full range of motion of the hip can be done while sitting at your desk, while on a plane, or under similar circumstances. This video is important for you if you want to prevent or recover from hip pain.

Performing a full range of motion routine of all the major muscle and joint groupings from head to toe should be a maintenance health program for everyone from a young age onward. This routine is the toothbrush and toothpaste of the musculoskeletal system. From a very young age every human being knows how to brush their teeth and owns and uses a toothbrush and toothpaste. This is not a perfect prevention methodology for the teeth, but it is the best we have. The daily full range of motion stretching routine similarly is not perfect, but it is the best definitive prevention technique we have. One of my goals in life is to have this routine recognized world-wide as an essential wisdom component for all man, similar to brushing teeth.
