  • 2) Keep your arms at your side and your palms facing up. Just relax.

  • 3) Close your eyes and breathe deeply and slowly through the nostrils.

  • 4) Start concentrating from your head to your feet. Don’t move ahead without relaxing particular part of the body.

  • 5) On each inhaling and exhaling (breathing) think that your body is totally relaxed. Let your tension, stress, depression and worry run away on each exhaling. You can practice this asana for about 3–5 minutes.

Steps for Abdominal Breathing Technique

  • Find a comfortable, quiet place to sit or lie down. You can try it sitting in a chair, sitting crosslegged, or lying on your back.

  • If you're sitting in a chair, your knees should be bent and your head, neck, and shoulders, relaxed.

  • If you're lying down, you can place a small pillow under your head and one under your knees for comfort. You can also just keep your knees bent.

  • Breathe in slowly through your nose (both nostrils). The air going into your nose should move downward so that you feel your stomach rise. Don't force or push your abdominal muscles outward.

  • Hold your breath for a second after inhaling.

  • Now exhale slowly, uniformly and completely. While exhaling the abdomen is drawn inwards continuously and slowly.

  • Before the breath is reversed, hold the breath for a second.

  • Repeat the cycle several times.

  • Most people can work up to 5 to 10 minutes one to four times a day.

Steps for Anulom Vilom Pranamaya (Alternate Breathing Technique)

  • Sit in any meditative posture preferably on ground/floor.(cross legged)

  • If you have problem sitting on the ground/floor, you can try it sitting in a chair.

  • If you're sitting in a chair, your knees should be bent and your head, neck, and shoulders, relaxed.

  • Spine should be upright

  • Using the right thumb, block the right nostril. Inhale slowly through the left nostril and try to fill your lungs with as much air as you can. Now hold the breath for a second or two. (Cardiac, Blood pressure patients and pregnant women should not hold their breath while doing this pranayama just keep inhaling and exhaling.)

  • Then block your left nostril with your ring and little finger. ( if you have trouble using ring and little finger, you can use your middle finger) and exhale slowly and completely through your right nostril.

  • Now inhale through the right nostril (still keeping the left nostril blocked), fill up your lungs again with air (hold your breath for a second or two) and then exhale through your left nostril by blocking your right nostril with right thumb. This completes one single round.

  • Start the cycle again. Repeat the entire process.

  • Start with 3 to 5 minutes daily and gradually increase the counts of inhalation and exhalation with regular practice. (For best results should be practiced 15-20 minutes daily).
