Define stress as the universal body response to stressors, covering its physiological and biochemical aspects, distinguish stress from distress, and describe the two-way dynamic interaction between personality and environment.
The stress response activates the sympathetic nervous system and adrenal hormones, raising heart rate and blood sugar. The hypothalamus and limbic system coordinate survival actions like freezing, escaping, or fighting.
Explain three stages of the stress response, detailing how the body activates stress, releases hormones, raises blood pressure and sugar, weakens immune function, and progresses to exhaustion as stress persists.
Explore workplace stress by examining its biochemical and psychological aspects, how imbalance between work challenges and personal resources creates stress, and the coping risks like alcohol or drugs.
Identify psychosocial risk factors in the workplace, such as workload, control, support, and harassment. Learn to manage these demands and improve safety through clear communication and role clarity.
Explore risk factors related to stress outside the workplace and their impact on work performance. Understand how home life events, finances, caregiving, and social pressures influence stress and work-life balance.
Explore bio-psycho-social stress changes and workplace signs, including emotional, cognitive, and behavioral reactions, sleep issues, irritability, and presenteeism, plus long-term health risks.
Learn to manage stress by addressing four levels through nutrition, activity, sleep, and lifestyle choices. Practice healthy eating, daily movement, seven to eight hours of sleep, and avoid nicotine.
Stress starts as a thought; control your response with practical steps—gratitude, saying no, tracking stressors, balancing life, scheduling wisely, and prioritizing tasks to reduce cortisol.
Practice level three emotional health by nurturing purpose, creativity, and balance through breaks, mindfulness, and hobbies to reduce stress and burnout.
Set time for social life with friends, and avoid work talk or emails. Propose to your boss a plan to improve time management, support, and meaningful tasks to reduce stress.
