WHO: Alex Budak is a serial social entrepreneur and believer that anyone can be a changemaker. He co-founded, and now advises, StartSomeGood.com which has helped 700+ social impact organizations in 50+ countries raise $5M+. Other adventures include running Scandinavia's leading social enterprise incubator, consulting Change.org, and giving lectures on social innovation to groups around the world including in Ukraine, Cambodia, Portugal and at the White House. Now at UC Berkeley, he is helping to start a new leadership center. He lives in San Francisco with his favorite changemaker, his wife, Rebecca.

WHAT: The characteristics of successful changemakers

• WHO: Avis used to work in executive recruitment in Dublin but left her job to become an entrepreneur in Sydney. Since then, she has founded multiple social enterprises, aiming to use entrepnreuership, innovation, storytelling and design thinking to inspire and empower people and organisations to create a better future. She was voted in Sydney Morning Herald's Top 100 People of Influence and is the founder of Think Act Change - which brings together changemakers, thinkers, innovators, entrepreneurs or anyone who is passionate about social innovation, social enterprise or simply doing good to discuss how we can create a better future.

• WHO: As the founder and CEO of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, BillDrayton has pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship, growing a global association of nearly 3,000 leading social entrepreneurs who work together to create an ‘Everyone a Changemaker’ world. In addition to his current role as Chairman and CEO of Ashoka, Mr. Drayton is the chair of Youth Venture, Community Greens, and Get America Working!

• WHO: Clay is a prominent thinker on the social and economic effects of Internet technologies and journalism. He has shared his wisdom in two books (Cognitive Surplus and Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organising Without Organisations) and numerous TED Talks which have received over 3 million views.

  • Em Havens is a community designer at IDEO U with a background in leadership education and social finance. She's tackled innovation challenges in a wide variety of contexts, from venture philanthropy to healthcare technology, and was a founding member of a small organizational design firm. She was also a visiting professor of Design Thinking at the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Cosmo Fujiyama is a strategist, social entrepreneur and educator. She is the Managing Director at the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania where she leads transformative leadership programs for social entrepreneurs, business and non-profit professionals around the world. Previously, she was a Senior Intrapreneur at Ashoka working to identify social entrepreneurs. While an undergraduate student, Cosmo co-founded and led a Students Helping Honduras, a nonprofit organization creating access to quality education in northern Honduras
• WHAT:  Building Creative Leaders to Create Impact— a conversation with IDEO U + UPenn's Center for Social Impact Strategy around core creative competencies and tools to create sustainable social impact

• WHO: Daniel Flynn is the Co-founder and Managing Director of Thankyou - a social enterprise that exists to empower people to play a part in ending global poverty through simple everyday purchases. He founded Thankyou at the age of 19, and the business venture now includes 38 consumers products across water, food and body care that funds safe water access, hygiene and sanitation programs and food aid in 17 countries including Australia. Thankyou has given more than $5.5 million to help hundreds of thousands of people in need.

• WHO: David is an entrepreneur, activist, self-confessed geek and passionate advocate of co-designing with communities. He has founded a number of social impact ventures including Digital Eskimo, Australia’s first purpose-driven design agency (acquired in 2015 and rebranded as Future Friendly), the social change advocacy platform Do Gooder and Revolution Apps, which launched the Compost Revolution on-line platform in partnership with Waverley, Randwick and Woollhara councils and the NSW EPA
• WHAT: Bootstrapping vs. Taking Finance

• WHO: Dora believes business has a responsibility to do good. And through her 20 years of PR experience she has found that brands that do good and talk about it in an authentic way become media ‘superstars’. For the past 12years she ran Prickly Pear PR – a green, sustainable PR agency that boosted the profile of non-profits, sustainable, organic and values-driven brands. In 2016 she launched Social Mission – a communications agency that helps companies promote their values - critical today, especially when 91% of consumers would switch brands to one that supports a good cause if price and quality were similar.  Her work spans both the corporate and charity world where she creates ‘newsworthy’ stories to propel her clients into the spotlight.
• WHAT: How social startups can use PR to get noticed and gain traction

• WHO: Hildy Gottlieb is a social scientist and asker of powerful questions. She is the co-founder and Chief Boundary Pusher at Creating the Future, a 10-year experiment to answer the question, “If people everywhere are asking the kinds of questions that bring out the best in themselves and those around them, how much more humane could the world be?” In addition to her role at Creating the Future, Hildy is a speaker and consultant, helping organizations and companies bring out the best in their own situation, reaching for what is possible inside and outside their own four walls.

• WHO: Joel Comm is an American author and Internet marketer. Comm is the CEO of InfoMedia, a social media consulting company. Joel is the New York Times best-selling author of 13 books, including The AdSense Code, Click Here to Order: Stories from the World’s Most Successful Entrepreneurs, KaChing: How to Run an Online Business that Pays and Pays and Twitter Power 2.0. He has also written over 40 ebooks. He has appeared in The New York Times, on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, on CNN online, on Fox News, and many other places.

• WHO: Kate Clugston is the Founder of Radical Self Care Project, yoga teacher and mum of two small humans. Kate weaves storytelling, embodied wisdom and mindfulness practice; holding space for people to have an experience of themselves and tap in to their inner knowing. She's a passionate entrepreneur, creative and driven; teaching live clases and harnessing the powers of online education. Over 500 people around the world have participated in Radical Self Care Project to date. Kate seeks to create a world fueled by love and kindness, awakening wisdom to the inner connection of all things.

• WHO: Katja Forbes is the founder of syfte, specialist in research & experience design, educator in Design Thinking and Interaction Design at University of Sydney and co-founding member of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) Sydney. Katja has been working in digital media since the mid 1990’s back when everyone had blue hair and rode razor scooters around the office. Such a long tenure in the industry has afforded her with invaluable experience and perspective which she loves to share. Most recently she’s been exploring the world of digital auras and ambient intelligence as well as less creepy topics like holistic experience design and wearable tech and cognition.
• WHAT: How social entrepreneurs can use human centred design to develop solutions

• WHO: Kylie has extensive experience managing programs and relationships in the area of social impact. She currently sits on the Boards of Linkwest, SCALES Community Legal Centre and Impact Seed, and holds roles with the McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA, the Youth Affairs Council of WA (Strategic Policy Specialist) and the Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS). She has previously run an international social enterprise, based in Cambodia; and has worked on countless projects which look at how various stakeholders work together to design stuff that creates better outcomes for communities that need it. Kylie has a wide tertiary background, including degrees in business, political science and community development, and postgraduate qualifications in project management and the field of social impact. She is currently completing the Juris Doctor at UWA. Currently as a co-founder and Director of Impact Seed, Kylie is exploring how we finance social impact. Increasingly agnostic as to ‘for-profit’ or ‘not-for-profit’ structures, she is more interested how we leverage the best of both in an increasingly challenging and complex funding environment.
• WHAT: NFPs setting up social enterprises

• WHO: Luke is the Executive Director of Toowoomba Clubhouse. The Clubhouse is a centre for social innovation that works specifically with people living with a mental illness in the Toowoomba region. He was born to run social enterprises. After leaving school he set up his first social enterprise with his sister in a housing estate in Sydney. From there he has worked on many social enterprises both in Australia and the UK. He currently lives in Queensland, where he leads the Toowoomba Clubhouse and its associated social enterprise projects. Luke is currently working on a new $6m commercial laundry and career development centre which was opened by the Prime Minister in January 2017.
• WHAT: How he raised $6 million to develop Towoomba's largest social enterprise

• WHO: Melinda advises brands and retailers on responsible business and supply chain strategy, social and environmental risks, communications, partnerships and sourcing. She established the Australian and New Zealand arm of Fashion Revolution in 2013 and sits on its Global Advisory Committee. The movement has garnered nation wide press across print, television and radio and has facilitated events and online campaigns, successfully advocating to all stakeholders in the fashion industry. Melinda was Deputy Chair of the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand, the body responsible for advocacy of the Fair Trade movement from 2014 – 2016. In 2010, her previous retail business, I Ran the Wrong Way: A Trader of Good Finds, was a finalist in the City of Sydney Business Awards in the Fair Trade category and the Lord Mayor’s Sustainable Business Award.

• WHO: Michael Margolis is an educator, anthropologist and narrative strategist. A 2x TEDx speaker. Strategic advisor to Silicon Valley's greatest brands. • WHO: Natalie Bramble is a community development specialist. As a consultant, facilitator and trainer she’s been working in the not-for-profit and social enterprise sector. Based in regional NSW, Natalie works across Australia helping organisations with their governance, funding, strategic planning, grants and tenders. She has secured over 28.2 million dollars in the last 8 years for service and product based sector organisations through tenders and grants and has an 82.5% success rate. An alumni of the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Natalie cofounded social enterprise Community Courses Online and is also a 2016 NSW Hidden Treasures Honour Roll recipient for her work supporting the sector.

• WHO: Natasha has over 5 years experience in the social enterprise and NFP sectors. She is a digital producer specialising in using the skills of film production, media and marketing to create a better world. She is among other things responsible for developing, producing and facilitating Digital Storytellers’ capacity building workshops. Clients for which she has been primary workshop facilitator include Vivid Ideas, ING Direct, Study NSW, Engineers Without Borders, and Sydney University’s Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation

• WHO: Sam Refshauge is CEO of social enterprise Batyr. Batyr focuses on preventative education in the area of young people’s mental health. They provide programs that train young people to speak about their personal experience with mental ill health and start a conversation in their community. After graduating from UNSW with a Bachelor of Commerce he moved into the social purpose world through an Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development position in Indonesia. Returning to Australia, Sam then worked with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience before taking on his current role. Sam gets his motivation from the ocean, exercise, friends & family whilst relaxes through yoga reading & mindfulness.
• WHAT: Lessons learnt from transitioning a social enterprise from founder to CEO

• WHO: Tom Dawkins is co-Founder and CEO of StartSomeGood, a crowdfunding platform for social enterprises, non-profits and changemakers initiatives globally with the highest project success rate in the industry. He was previously the founder of Australian youth non-profit Vibewire, the first Social Media Director at Ashoka in Washington DC and the founding Director of the Australian Changemakers Festival.
