Working for yourself is a great way to create the world you want and I hope this helps you in your path, freedom and joy.
Get going,
Getting Clear - What is your motivation, what is your vision for your world / business?
You may be called to start a business for a variety of different reasons. Perhaps you want to work for yourself to create more freedom and flexibility, maybe you are super passionate about something and want to offer that to the world. Whatever the calling, having clear intentions about your business and what you want to create from the beginning is something that can really support along the way.
Having a clear intention can provide clarity for the path but it can also support staying motivated.
So before you begin to create your business some things that I would suggest considering are below,
Why am I starting this business, what do I want to create for myself and my world?
What do I want to achieve in this business, personally, financially and as a business offering services in the world?
What is my ideal outcome for this business in two years time, three years time, ten years time?
Who do I want to help in this business, and what impact do I want to have?
What are your goals? Don’t limit the vision.
What will you offer?
This guide is specifically focussed on setting out the steps to start a service based business. So the consideration here is, what will you offer to others and be paid for?
One way to establish what you can offer is to take a piece of paper and write down both your skills and interests. See what feels aligned for you, do an inner intuition check and check with market research whether there is a market for your business.
Practical steps to get going
Branding
Establish the name of your business.
Conduct market research and checks to ensure that your proposed name is sufficiently unique and authentic to you. Check whether Facebook, Instagram etc. are available under that username. Check whether you can get a domain name for your business with that name under the likes of Crazy Domains (crazydomains.com), seek legal advice for any trademark considerations.
Establish your brand identity (who you are, what you stand for)
Create a logo for your business (Canva.com) or seek professional branding services. Make sure your logo and branding matches the energy you are intending, and how you wish to be perceived in the market.
Customers
Who are your customers?
Establish your key target audience and key target market. Who are your customers, what are their pain points, how can you help them?
What marketing messages do you share with them that speak directly to them?
How do you sell to them? Is it locally, online, directly, in-person?
How do they find you? (Sales and marketing)
Create key content pillars and a marketing strategy to support your marketing messages.
Competitors
Do you have competitors?
What makes you unique from them?
Getting online
Set up a Facebook Business page (and Instagram, Tiktok, Linkedin accounts if applicable). Add your logo, fill out the required business details.
Set up a Google Business Profile.
Create a website (wix.com, squarespace.com). Add client testimonials, contact details, have a unique domain name, unique business email address.
Marketing
Start marketing in local community Facebook pages, share what you do and what you offer
Share your business on your personal social media accounts. Start to get client/customer testimonials on your Facebook page (and Google Business Profile)
Start marketing - offline marketing could include business cards, flyers, local cafes. Online marketing could include running Google Ads, organic posting on social media, paid social ads. Advertising in community group pages
Build your email list and conduct email marketing as it aligns (Mailchimp.com).
Making money
Consider,
How will your business make you money?
How much time and/or energy does it take for you to complete the service?
Make sure you have enough margin - so you are not just working at cost, but actually making a profit.
How do you charge? Is it by fixed fee or by the hour? I would highly recommend taking payment up front before doing any work, or at least requiring a deposit. Fixed fee means you aren’t limited by time. Again, don’t limit yourself, begin how you wish to continue!
Put aside money for tax and other expenses. Have bank accounts set up for these purposes.
Is there a way that you can expand your services so that you are not limited to just one income stream? Is there something that you can create that means that your business is not reliant on you working? (Consider ways of setting up a passive income stream).
Other things to consider prior to beginning,
Seek professional legal advice in respect of your business. Do you need to meet any laws, regulations, or do you have compliance to meet? What is the best business structure for you and your business? Are you a sole trader, do you need to incorporate a company? These are just some examples of things you may need to consider so seeking professional advice is needed.
Seek professional tax and accounting advice for your business. Learn which expenses may be tax deductible for your business.
Do you need insurance? Connect with a broker to see what type of insurance cover you may need for the services that you are offering.
The power of belief
Other more holistic things to consider when you begin your business are set out below,
Self-belief, confidence and mindset. Working through any beliefs that may be limiting you is a powerful way to ensure you have confidence in what you are doing and to ensure that you are holding the right energy for what it is you are creating and manifesting. Release the beliefs that don’t serve you, whether they are yours or the beliefs of others.
Set clear intentions about who you want to work with and who you want to help.
Alignment is key.
Take action.
Closing
I hope this introduction to starting your business has been helpful and supports you to begin your business journey.
It can be easy and with that intention things can flow naturally and in an aligned way.
I wish you all the prosperity, goodness and freedom that working for yourself can bring. Many thanks again for buying this course and all the best.
