In this stand up comedy tutorial, you will learn how to use your own interesting stories to write jokes you can tell on stage. You’ll also learn how to edit and order your material into a 5-minute stand-up comedy routine. By the end of the course, you’ll deliver your first performance live at an open mic comedy show!
We’ll use several practical exercises to help you come up with joke ideas and develop your humor. Through the course, you will write your complete 5-minute set. Each exercise builds on the previous one and you’ll focus on one thing at a time. This makes it easy for you to see rapid progress.
We’ll use plenty of real-life examples from the comedy stage to illustrate the main points. This includes video of my own performances, with commentary on why I chose specific words and structures, as well as alternatives. You’ll also learn practical public speaking skills that will work for comedians and other public speakers.

Markus Seppälä is a stand-up comedian who has made the audience laugh on four continents, including in the US, UK, Japan, China and all across Europe. Markus runs Comedy Basel, the biggest comedy club in town.
Markus is a roller coaster enthusiast and passionate about Excel and failing. On stage he shares self-deprecating travel stories and reflects on split identities.
