How to Design Websites on Squarespace 7 - No Coding Required

In this lecture, you'll learn how to add pages to the menu, how to add pages to the secondary menu, and also create pages that don't appear in menus. You'll also learn about demo content, and how you can create a page while retaining all the demo content.

The design portion of the main menu has quite a few options for us to enable or disable. In this lecture I'll show you what settings I recommend and what will work best for your own website. We take a look at adding logos, modifying the lock screen, adding an announcement bar, adding a mobile information bar, adding the Squarespace badge, how to put your own custom CSS, and how to use Adobe TypeKit.

The Commerce menu gives you lots of valuable information about the orders you've received, inventory, and discounts/promotions.

The Analytics menu provides traffic information regarding your visitors such as where they are from, what pages were visited, how they came to your website, and what they're looking for on your website.

There are 7 basic blocks on Squarespace and they include 3 or 4 of the blocks that you'll use the most often so this is a section you'll be revisiting over and over. In this lecture you learn what each of the 7 blocks (Text, Markdown, Quote, Image, Video, Audio, and Embed) are for and how you can add and customize each one.

This doesn't mean you have to spend days or weeks planning this out, Squarespace actually has several page layouts that we can choose from to use and each one works for a specific goal. In this lecture I'll show you how to use those layouts and how to move things around on the page.

The prefooter and footer are areas where you can put in a quick navigation, copyright information, and maybe a quick summary of your website. It should be similar to the main menu at the top to keep consistency. When people have scrolled all the way to the bottom of your website, having another menu there will make it easier to navigation your website without having to scroll back up to the top. This is also an excellent place to capture email addresses and link to your social media profiles.

If you want your website to rank higher on search engine results, there's really no way unless you blog. Blogging is an incredible tool for SEO since it causes your website to look new and updated since you're blogging frequently. Depending on your website, you can blog about subjects your visitors will find interesting. For example, a law firm can blog about the latest law changes, any new passed bills, etc. There's ALWAYS something you can blog about so make sure you look into it. In this lecture I'll show you how you can create a blog page, and add blog posts to it, as well as how to style blog posts to look the best.
