Develop sanctification through God's grace that transforms the soul and cultivate godly habits by practicing giving, praying, and fasting to become more like Christ.
Cultivate spiritual growth by knowing, loving, trusting, and enjoying God through the Holy Spirit in Christ; seek honest input from others, and become more like Jesus, delighting in the Father.
Sanctification comprises positional sanctification (justification), progressive sanctification, and perfect sanctification as the Holy Spirit renews us and conforms us to the image of Christ.
Discover the method of sanctification as the spirit, the word, and his people renew our thinking, reshape desires, align actions, and guide feelings.
Measure sanctification by direction over time, not speed. Observe growth from spiritual milk to meat as you are born again and increasingly resemble Jesus over time.
Explore how Matthew 6 outlines three godly habits, three means of grace, that help believers listen to God through his word and become more like Christ.
Practice righteousness, prayer, and fasting with sincerity by giving to the needy in secret, praying privately, and seeking forgiveness and heavenly reward.
Practice giving in secret to the needy, God sees your generosity and selflessness, and that what’s entrusted into your care enables you to love and serve others, growing like Jesus.
Practice prayer as dependence on God expressed in communion, not performance; it rises from sovereign God’s command and Jesus’s example, bringing joy, peace, and deeper relationship with the Father.
Discover that prayer is communion with God, not a formula; begin with adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication, pause to listen, and seek God's will and daily needs.
Prioritize knowing, loving, and trusting God, letting love for him motivate your disciplines, and depend on the Lord’s grace to grow more like Jesus.
There is a crucial distinction between the spiritually busy Christian and the spiritually healthy Christian. Walking with Christ is not simply about knowing information and agreeing with it. God’s desire is to transform His people into the image of Jesus Christ. Spiritual Growth: Developing Godly Habits is about tapping into the channels of grace that God has designed to help us become more like Jesus.
In this course, we will begin by discussing sanctification. This is a theological term that refers to our becoming more like Jesus. What is sanctification? How does sanctification work? How does God bring about a change in my whole being—thoughts, desires, actions, and feelings?
We will then narrow in on specific disciplines or practices or habits that are the means by which God brings about a transformation in our souls. Like any relationship, we begin to grow in depth and intimacy as we listen to the other individual. How do we listen to God? Where can I go to hear his voice? How can I be sure it is God speaking and that I am hearing him correctly?
Finally, after looking at Matthew 6, we will define and develop the godly habits of giving, praying, and fasting. What are these disciplines? Why are they critical to my growth in Christ? How do I practice them in a manner that is pleasing to God and effective?
This course is for all those who are interested in learning how to become more like Jesus.
