You will learn the basic definition of Spiritual Direction.
At your first session with a spiritual director, you will be asked a few questions to help the director to get to know you and what your expectations are. This is a good exercise for anyone who is starting out on a spiritual journey, or for someone who is on their journey, but wants to regroup and refocus on what their spiritual priorities are. Fill out this intake form to see what you would expect from a session with a spiritual director.
In this lesson, you will learn more about the spiritual director.
As we learn about spiritual direction, your spiritual director will sometimes give you homework to do after a session. This is exercise is an example of an exercise that might be used. It will help you to recognize the process of awakenings to possibilities. You will be asked to look at your life and examine how the ending is a catalyst for new beginnings
Engage in remote or in-office spiritual direction sessions, guided by spirituality reframed through a prayer for protection, meditation, or contemplation, centered on present awareness and the powers of the universe.
Begin with an opening prayer invoking the light, love, and protection of God. Let the mind and life of God guide and flow through you.
Open your journal and write down insights or questions; discover how your questions define your view of the divine, and hear the still small voice within.
Explore the miracle question to set spiritual goals, journaling responses about how life could improve and the role of God or spirituality in that process.
Practice contemplative prayer as a meditative method, choosing a phrase representing the divine, repeating it for about 20 minutes, and retraining brain and spirit toward your calling.
Create three present-moment affirmations representing each goal to train your brain to accept them as already here, guiding your subconscious toward finding a spiritual home.
Explore the miracle question, cultivate contemplative prayer, and set affirmations and goals to invite divine presence, present-moment awareness, and enduring peace through spiritual direction.
This homework exercise is one that you can use several times throughout your spiritual practice. Lectio Divina, or "Divine Reading" asks you to read, meditate, pray, contemplate, and act on inspirations you gain from reading a spiritual passage from a book, quote, or other text. It can work with any type of inspirational reading. Enjoy!
