Hi, and welcome to the American English Slang and idioms Course, where you'll learn to understand how Americans talk.
If you want to understand what Americans say and mean when we are talking to each other, this course is for you.
I'm your instructor, Steve McDonald, and I'm here to help you understand the strange things that Americans say every day that even Americans don't always understand.
I was born and raised in the USA. I speak in very normal American English accent. In this course, I will speak slowly at first so you can understand every word. Then I speak faster and faster in each example so you can hear what it really sounds like when spoken by a native English speaker.
I use examples from everyday American conversations for each phrase you will learn. I have found that repetition is the best way to learn new language, so I repeat each phrase 3 times in a sentence for you to hear. I also explain difficult meanings and confusing pronunciation in each sentence as you go through the course.
This course is for any level of English learner. Even beginners can learn a lot about American accents and pronunciation just by listening to the lectures. If you don't understand most of what I'm saying as a beginner, you will still learn a lot about pronunciation and accents. Intermediate to advanced English learners will benefit the most. I'll teach you a lot of new American slang vocabulary along with many subtle meanings and variations.
The course is fun and easy to follow and it's loaded with American English words that you probably didn't learn in school.
