The students will be able to write thermochemical equations, especially, the formation and combustion equations using two simple rules. A proficiency in writing formation and combustion equations is a prerequisite for the successful solution of problems from Thermochemistry.
Almost all the problems in Thermochemistry may be separated into 4 main types. The 4 types of problems are introduced in the second video.
The students will learn how to calculate the enthalpy change of a reaction at constant volume from the the enthalpy change at constant pressure and vice versa.
The students will learn how to calculate the enthalpy change of a reaction using bond energy values
The students will learn how to calculate the enthalpy change of a reaction if all the thermochemical data given are formation data.
The students will learn how to calculate the enthalpy change of a reaction if at least one thermochemical data given is a combustion data.
This course is designed so meticulously that it will help you organize your thought process properly, so that when you complete this course you will have the knowledge and confidence, to approach problems from Thermochemistry with a clarity of thought
Proficiency in writing thermochemical equations, especially, formation and combustion equations is a prerequisite for the successful solution of problems from Thermochemistry.
The methods of writing the formation and combustion equations with a clarity of thought and with the help of two simple rules are discussed in the first video. Exercises to practice writing formation and combustion equations are given in the first video
Almost all the problems from Thermochemistry may be separated into 4 main types.
The 4 main types of problems are introduced in the second video.
Type I Problems : Calculation of delta E from delta H and vice versa
Type II Problems : Calculation of enthalpy changes of reactions using bond energy
Type III Problems : Calculation of enthalpy changes of reactions using formation data only
Type IV Problems : Calculation of enthalpy changes of reactions using formation and combustion data
The theory and strategy behind each type of problem are explained clearly right at the start of each video
This will prepare you for the rest of the video, even if you do not have a strong background
In the third video, the method of solving Type I problems are explained in detail. At the end of this video Type I problems are given for practice.
The method of solving Type II problems are explained in detail in the fourth video. At the end of this video Type II problems are given for practice.
The fifth video deals with the method of solving Type III problems. At the end of this video Type III problems are given for practice.
In the sixth and last video, the method of solving Type IV problems are explained in great detail. At the end of this video Type IV problems are given for practice.
