Description

What will we cover?

Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities for Beginners covers 3 main topics:

  1. Linear Equations

    • What are linear equations?

    • Core techniques that set you up for solving any linear equation

  2. Linear Simultaneous Equations

    • What are simultaneous equations?

    • Solving by substitution

    • Solving by elimination

    • Systems of more than 2 equations

  3. Linear Inequalities

    • What are linear inequalities?

    • Core techniques for solving any linear inequality

    • Compound AND inequalities

    • Compound OR inequalities

How will we learn?

In this course we take it back to the classroom with a classic whiteboard and marker pens, and you'll watch over my shoulder as I explain the core principles involved in solving linear equations, simultaneous equations, and linear inequalities. You'll also work through detailed solutions with me to some example questions, and the practice worksheets provided for each video lecture will help you to solidify your understanding as we work through the course.

The course is divided into 3 sections, where each of which contains the following learning resources:

  • Video Lectures – each video lecture introduces a topic and provides clear, worked through answers to some example questions.

  • Worksheets – each video lecture is accompanied by a corresponding worksheet of practice questions to solidify your understanding.

  • Answer Sheets – an answer sheet is provided for each and every worksheet, complete with fully detailed solutions to all questions.

  • Challenge Worksheets - at the end of each section you can take on the Challenge worksheet to put your knowledge to the test! These worksheets provide a collection of more difficult problems which combine all of the techniques learnt throughout the section. You should be capable of completing all of the worksheets provided with the course solely using the content taught in the lectures.

  • Summary Sheets – each section concludes with a summary sheet outlining the content covered.

Why take this course?

Studying linear equations is a great place to start if you're interested in learning linear algebra, whether this is for your school exams, reviewing the basics before your University lectures, progressing your career, or you're simply excited about math! This course takes you through precisely what you need to know in a concise set of lectures that really focus in on the techniques and get you learning quickly.

Learning linear algebra sets you up for a wide array of career paths, including graphics, AAA games companies or high end visual effects for films, as well as scientific research projects, banking, rigid body dynamics and more!

Why I'm qualified to teach this course

I graduated from the University of Bath with a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2016, and specialised the Mathematics half of my degree in "pure" mathematics and linear algebra, covering topics from differential equations and integration up to Group Theory. I specialised the Computer Science half of my degree in Computer Graphics and Computer Vision, and since graduating I have been working in the Visual Effects industry for films as a software developer, and most recently as part of a small team developing in-house rendering technologies. I have a personal passion and love for mathematics, as well as for teaching, and I hope I can convince you to love algebra just as much as I do!

Who this course is for:

  • Students just starting out in linear algebra at school or University, or preparing for an exam.
  • Anyone needing a refresher on the basic techniques used for solving linear equations and inequalities.
  • Anyone wanting to start learning linear algebra to benefit their career.
  • Anyone generally interested in maths!
