This course teaches you how to configure the VBA environment, add the required API references, connect to a PDM vault, build a user interface, securely log in, browse folders, work with file configurations, read data card variables, and safely update files using proper check-out and check-in logic. The course focuses on real-world workflows.
You start by setting up the VBA editor and adding the SOLIDWORKS PDM API references, then learn how the PDM API hierarchy is organized so you know which object to reach for and why. From there you create a vault instance, retrieve the local vault views on the machine, and build a user interface that lets the user pick a vault and log in securely, with proper validation and error handling.
With a working connection in place, you browse folders using the iterator pattern, expand the interface with configuration selectors, and write dynamic selection logic. You then iterate through file configurations, read data card variables, and implement smart file locking logic so files are only checked out when they need to be. The course finishes by updating files and completing the full check-out and check-in cycle.
Who this course is for: SOLIDWORKS PDM administrators and developers who already know basic VBA and want to build complete, reliable tools on top of the PDM API. If you are new to the PDM API, start with SOLIDWORKS PDM API: Basics with VBA.
