What experiences like attacks, attackers, research and depression lead to the necessity to create a training system and app that helps people recognise and deal with toxic people on social media? I talk about my own and friends negative experiences using social networks for business.
How many users globally are found on social networks? This lecture talks about how and when advertisers build groups of potential customers, how these are targeted and how many billions of people actually use social media in the world today.
This lecture looks at how advertisers build monitoring groups and how are these targeted by interest groups that send out propaganda and toxic messaging. We also learn more about the actual reason why social networks were created (hint: to make millions of dollars in advertising revenue).
Businesses and VIPs that are on social networks are very frequently subject to attacks from many different "fake" or pseudo users that can be competition or nation-states that seek to disrupt or destroy these companies reputations by posting false and negative comments about them that are mostly lies or untrue. IN some cases we also see modified audio and video files that are referred to as "deepfakes".
People that do research or post comments on Social Media are influenced by what they read and what others post. When there are many different threat actors on these networks, we can't help but be influenced by all the negativity that is around us.
Hate and interest groups utilise social networks to push out their messaging as well as gain new followers for the group. In addition to getting new followers, these groups also use advertising and propaganda to spread disinformation and cause disruptions. Lastly, interest and hate groups use the group function to monitor members as well as target possible victims for attacks in the future.
Advertising is the main source of revenue for all social networks, as is listed in multiple research reports and books on social media financing. What many do not realise is that social networks have no real interest in reducing false adverting because different hate and interest groups pay money to post their lies on the networks. Google, Facebook and Co are notoriously bad at catching fake, false and hateful disinformation.
This final video discusses the risks and threats of using and working with social networks.
This course helps you understand what social networks are and why they were created. It also helps us understand how they target us and how they make us addicted to them. It also teaches us how to use social networks while discovering and stoping the toxicity and negativity that creates depression.
We start by looking at how social networks are built then we move on to how they target people and create audiences for advertising. Advertising systems are used by advertisers to target and collect data on all users across multiple networks. These applications also collect data about everything we do on our smart phones and computers which makes targeting us much easier.
Topics discussed in this course:
How Social Networks Are Built
How Social Networks Target Groups of People
How false news, propaganda and interest groups use social networks to spread lies
What Cyber Risks and Threats are Hidden in Social Media
How to recognise and stop toxicity and negative interactions on social networks
What mental health issues are seen by people who use social media
We then look at the risks and how social network apps create anxiety and depression through sustained usage via mobile apps that keep us hooked via endorphin releases (likes). This course is based on research done on the mental health issues created by social media apps and usage as well as cyberbullying and how unvetted advertisers spread fake news and propaganda. Additional research in my book The Social Media Dilemma on Amazon shows how social networks effects on mental health such as depression, suicides, attention deficits as well as negative body image.
