Let's begin by defining what we mean by video marketing and some of the reasons why I've selected InVideo as my preferred video creation platform and the one I am recommending you use if you are starting out in video marketing.
We'll explore a host of features and best practice techniques as we work through this course, but I want you to begin by understanding a little about how we arrived here today.

Just a few introductory words about the significant opportunity that video brings to you and your business. There are countless businesses generating new customers and sales through the use of video and now is your time to join them.
Video is the current content style of choice for successful marketing, but how did we arrive where we are today? When I first started in digital marketing in the mid 1990s we only had text and it relied on you being able to translate my messages. Then as the bandwidth increased we added images into the mix and the likes of Pinterest and Instagram took the digital world by force and changed everything. Instantly a picture told a thousand words and made it easier to tell our stories and sell our messages.
But that wasn't enough, we needed to keep our target customers' attention and so we introduced video and the key goal was and always will be, keeping the attention long enough to encourage our customer to do something (click a button, like our post, engage with the conversation).
AR and VR is coming, but today, it's all about video.
I want to encourage you to always remember the two words Brand Consistency when you are creating and publishing your videos in social media.
There are so many flashy features and widgets you can add into your videos but if these confuse your customer you will lose business. It is all about your customer recognising your brand before you even start talking to them. This is achieved through careful planning, using a consistent font, colour palette, style and tone of voice.
I'll mention this again later.
The Social Media Rule of Thirds is vital if you are to succeed in your content marketing. This is especially important when you are planning your video content. If you fall into the trap of only creating promotional video content you will fail at the first hurdle because your customers are already tired of constantly receiving sales materials in their social media feeds.
The Social Media Rule of Thirds helps remind you to balance you content:
1 third of all your posts should be PERSONAL - getting to know you, your business, your team and your brand
1 third of all your posts should be POINT - signposting to others' content and videos and this helps keep you unpredictable
1 third of all your posts should be PROMOTE - if you have achieved the first two thirds you can use social media to sell
For more details about this vital technique you can visit https://neilwilkins.online/2017/12/20/social-media-rule-of-thirds-podcast/ and listen to my podcast on this topic

The second step in planning your video is to decide if it's a Stock video (one that you hope will have longevity and add value in the longer term) or a Flow Video (one that is quite disposable and it doesn't matter if it's not so relevant tomorrow)
Having decided if you are Personal, Point or Promote and if you are creating a Stock or Flow video, it's time to decide the length.
Consider carefully if your video is going to be Short Form (short, sharp and punchy, with a clear call to action) or Long Form (more aligned with thought leadership, a vlog, monologue or interview).
It is generally a good idea within your video strategy to strike a balance with both Short Form and Long Form over time, but for now, and for the purposes of creating your test video within InVideo, simply make a choice.
The fourth decision in planning your video is whether you are going to produce A-roll (you talking to the camera in real time and as the subject of the video, or a main camera recording an event, for example) or B-roll (a second, alternative camera view running at the same time OR some pre-recorded video clips that you will stitch together to form a video track to compliment an audio track or voice over that you are recording).
The alternative is you may wish to combine A-roll and B-roll into what might be a highly professional end product, but remember this will take more time editing.
Testing two almost identical versions of the same video, with just one difference (title, image, call to action) allows us to test what elements of our videos are getting the best results.
If we only ever create one version of our videos we might be missing subtle changes we could have made, that might result in significant improvements in their success.
In this video I explain the final decision you should make in the plan for your video.
Now that you have a clear set of goals for your video you can move to the next section and learn about how to create your InVideo video.
