One of the first things to consider is your script. While writing persuasive copy isn't covered in this course, we do want to understand the importance of starting out with powerful copy. Some of the things to think about are visual assets you may need. What imagery would support your copy? What elements will need to be created and brought into your video?
Storyboarding is an important topic to introduce, especially when you first start making videos. Basically, it helps you collectively gather assets. Storyboarding will help you come up with ideas and visuals.
Now, if you're making a movie or short film, storyboarding is critical and helps you plan shots. We're not doing anything that intricate — and you'll see that my storyboarding is VERY SIMPLE. I use it to breakdown key phases of my marketing videos — most of my most successful VSLs aren't much more than a simple background, text, pictures as needed and some music. In fact, sometimes I only storyboard a small segment of a much larger projects (maybe a 30-second animation).
You don't need to be an artist at all because storyboarding is simply a way for you to gather your ideas — I use simple stick figures in my storyboards almost all the time.
In this Process Overview, I start out with an already recorded (and edited/trimmed) voiceover just to give you some prerequisite tips.
Remember, this course focuses on producing a VSL or marketing video. Most of the time, you'll have a professional voiceover artist record your voiceover. That being said, you absolutely can record the voiceover yourself but that is a completely different topic.
If you do plan to record your own voiceover, you should already be familiar with the process using Camtasia or another software you're familiar with.

If you're recording your own voiceover, use Camtasia to capture the screen so that you have a visual reference of the script while editing.
If writing your own script, take a break before you record it. Revisit the script with fresh eyes to make sure it's perfect, then proceed with recording & editing.
In this video we'll look at adding a background and the all-important subtitles. Don't under estimate the power of text! I'm calling the text we add 'subtitles' but in reality, the text is the BODY of the video.
Adding text pretty much forces your audience to read along and this accomplishes 2 important things. For one, if they have their speakers turned down, they can watch your video and it's like reading a sales letter. But the second thing is even more powerful. If they ARE listening AND they're reading the same words, it has a much stronger impact on their memory.

It's more about learning the technique, then adapting it for your specific application. For example, in this video I show you how to sample the colors of a golden icon. You could use that same trick to recreate a color scheme in a logo or photograph.
You'll also get some tips on using a screen grab to generate a layout template. This is particularly helpful when you need to create a graphical element and add it to text that's already in your video.
