It’s undeniable that the workforce is more and more focused on soft (or power) skills. However, identifying the skill gaps for individuals is not that easy. In addition, do you really need all those soft skills listed in every post? Finally, your personality also plays a huge role in your learning journey.
Skills are simply the ability to do something that can be taught and learned. To simplify, we use “skills” to describe what a person can do. It could be something like “negotiation”; when you combine your negotiation skills with communication, persuasion, etc., you become a negotiator or a leader. Remember that leadership requires more than a couple of technical (hard) and soft (power) skills to make you a competent leader.
So, how do we get around this and choose skills that can be used as a foundation? Soft skills will help us improve our behaviour and open the doors for us to learn continuously. If you are wondering, then this course is for you!
There are eight (8) modules within 4 Chapters in this course, which concentrate on the following:
Chapter 1: The changing world and the new demands for people (adaptability)
Module 1: Introduction to the course content and references available for download.
Module 2: Why do you need to learn foundational and future skills? Technical innovations are impacting our personal and professional lives more and more. 4th Digital Revolution is underway; Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, The Internet of Things, Big Data, 3-D Printing, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Materials science, Energy Storage, and Quantum Computing, to name to few. We need to understand what is happening first, and then we can work on what we need to do and how we can learn and adapt.
Module 3: What do you need to do, and how can you learn? You need to become adaptive. Agility, resilience and continuous learning will help you to respond to change; learn, unlearn, and relearn new skills to be future-ready.
Chapter 2: Learning the necessary foundational and future skills to survive in this new world.
Module 4: How do we define foundational skills? Examples of skills support adaptability and how you can improve those skills, such as Responsiveness, experimentation, confidence, emotional intelligence, persuasion, and more.
Module 5: How about future skills? Who defines them? Lots of reference materials are included in this module. In addition, we discuss cognitive, interpersonal, self-leadership and digital skills.
Module 6: What are the latest trends that will impact our lives? We look at the Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Design Thinking, Creativity and Ideation, Analytical Reasoning and Lean thinking to give you an idea about how these trends impact our lives.
Chapter 3: How you can develop your learning ecosystem and start your learning journey!
Module 7: How can you manage all this information? You must establish a continuous learning pattern, such as your own learning journey! What are the learning models, what is the learning cycle, what are the types of teaching models, and how can you build your continuous learning mindset?
Chapter 4: Course Takeaways & Next Steps
Module 8: In this module, we look at four dimensions of reasoning to help you change your mindset. We close the module with a recommended learning plan to help you create your learning journey to start learning.
