An addition to the theories listed is the Broaden-and-build theory by Barbara Frederickson (2001). An approach in positive psychology that helps explain how we can move away from a survival mode of responding to situations into a more expansive and thoughtful approach to life. Experiencing positive emotions helps people expand their immediate, momentary thoughts to help strengthen their psychological, social, cognitive, and physical resources and helps increase awareness, boost coping ability, and improve resilience. This is possible to be created in the session.

This video showcases a roleplay/re-enactment of a real-life application of Single Session Therapy. Witness how a therapist guides a client through a challenging family situation, helping them to identify coping strategies and develop a personalized action plan. The session highlights the power of focused intervention, empathy, and solution-focused techniques in addressing complex emotional issues within a limited timeframe.
In the context of therapy, particularly solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), presuppositions are assumptions embedded within a therapist's questions. These assumptions are not stated directly, but they guide the client's thinking in a particular direction, often toward positive change and solutions. They subtly suggest that positive change is possible, even if the client is not currently experiencing it.
How Presuppositions Work:
Implied but Unstated: The question does not explicitly state the assumption, but it is woven into the wording.
Guiding Thoughts: They nudge the client's mind toward considering possibilities, resources, and positive outcomes.
Shifting Focus: They subtly shift the focus away from problems and towards solutions and strengths.
Purpose of Presuppositions:
Instilling Hope: They subtly communicate that the therapist believes change is possible, which can be contagious and instill hope in the client.
Uncovering Resources: They prompt the client to consider their existing strengths and resources, even if they don't readily see them.
Generating Solutions: They encourage the client to start thinking about potential solutions, even if they seem distant at the moment.
Empowering the Client: They subtly reinforce the idea that the client has the capacity for change and problem-solving.
