Simply Dutch: Dutch for Beginners
What you'll learn
- Dutch grammar
- Dutch language
- Dutch basics
- No specific requirements
My course Simply Dutch: Dutch for Beginners is a language course that is specially designed for beginners in Dutch. In this course we will mainly focus on grammar. The course is divided into 12 chapters covering all kinds of grammar points such as verb tenses, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, etc. and even some grammar on intermediate level as well. This course basically covers everything you need to know as a beginner.
Each chapter is made up of at least 2 sections* and each section has its own lesson (video). The lessons are presented in a PowerPoint presentation format with around 80 slides in total.
In addition, each lesson comes with example sentences and at least one exercise. And there’s a listening exercise for each chapter. Click Resources (see the first lesson 1.1 Zijn (be)) to download the PDF documents Words & Sentences and the document Exercises. There you will also find a document on Pronunciation that will help you to pronounce Dutch words.
Also check out Additional notes for some extra information on some of the content you can find in the lessons.
* In the lessons I will sometimes mistakenly refer to the word 'paragraph' instead of 'section'. That's because in Dutch we use 'paragraaf' if we want to refer to a section within a chapter.
Be ready and comfortable
Most of the content discussed in the lessons cannot not be found in the documents that you will find under Resources. So it may be a good idea to take notes during the lessons. Of course you can always choose to go back to this course and review whatever it is you want to review.
Also, try not to go through the lessons too quickly. Learn at your own pace. Pause the video whenever you want or rewind and listen/read again. I highly recommend to check the above-mentioned documents under resources after each lesson before you move on to the next lesson.
With the aim to keep Dutch as simple as possible, some technical language terms are different from the more conventional technical language terms you may find elsewhere.

Who this course is for:
- Beginners in Dutch
Hi! My name is Ronald, a native speaker from the Netherlands. I have been teaching Dutch for over 7 years now.
Before being active as a Dutch teacher, I studied educational theory and gained experience in creating learning materials and exercises. I worked for several companies that are specialized in developing educational products and projects for public schools and NGOs.
I've also recently published an e-book Mike & Mina Speak Dutch: Dutch for Beginners.
If you're familiar with my course Simply Dutch: Dutch for Beginners you'll feel right at home as this book covers basically everything the course also offers, and even a little bit more.
Why get this book if you already have access to my course?
Well, first of all, in this book you'll learn Dutch through conversations between the fictional characters Mike and Mina. So you learn whatever they talk about. It's a fun and unique way to learn a language. Secondly, you can easily use this book as a reference book. It has a reference page that can quickly take you to important grammar points. And it also contains useful wordlists with question words, possessives, numbers, prepositions and so on. These and other parts of the book are easily accessible through links to make navigating quick and easy.
