
In this introduction lesson, I will explain the course and how it is structured.
This lesson wil introduce the getting to know moodle section.
I will define what a Virtual Learning Environment is, what it does and does not do, and different types of VLE. I will also inform learners of Moodle's history and extensive support community, along with the reasons for using Moodle to host online courses.
This lesson will teach participants how to create their own Moodle site by using the free Moodle Cloud platform. I will take learners, step-by-step, through the process of applying for a Moodle site all the way through to setting up a course. This course will then be used for the remainder of the course as a way for learners to practice what they are learning!
I will show learners how Moodle is organised and how to quickly and easily navigate the site. This will include how to view courses and categories, as well as the Dashboard.
In this lesson, learners profiles will be examined. Information will be provided on how to edit and update a Moodle profile. How and where profiles are used will also be examined.
This description will look at the personal preferences that are able to be configured within Moodle.
In this first learning activity of the course, I shall set two learning activities for learners to complete, so that learners can practice configuring profiles and dashboard settings.
A brief introduction to the section on Moodle courses. I shall explain what will be taught in this section. I will explain the learning outcomes and what students should expect to learn.
This lesson will teach learners how to create a new course in Moodle. Probably the most technical of all the lessons, it will teach learners the importance of configuring a course correctly, as well as a detailed look at the course settings page.
I will teach learners how to add new users to Moodle.
This lesson will cover basic enrolment options for courses in Moodle. I will discuss the different roles available in Moodle, and what each key roles are permitted to do.
In this second learning activity of the course, I shall set a learning activity for learners to complete, so that learners can practice creating moodle courses and enrolling users.
In this examples lesson, ill show learners some examples of user enrolment, course creation and adding users.
In this first exemplar lesson, we shall create a new moodle course that we are going to use as the exemplar course, add several users and enrol them on the exemplar course.
I will give a brief outline of the section ahead, which includes how to edit the Moodle page and what all the Moodle icons mean. I will also introduce the concept of labels and topics and how they can be used to transform a Moodle course.
This lesson will focus on Moodle editing icons, and their uses. Learners will be shown how to turn editing on, how to delete, move, indent, hide and edit activities and resources.
I will explain the use of topics and how topic titles and descriptions can be edited. I will also show learners how to highlight, move, delete and hide topics.
I will explain the use of the activity chooser and how to find out more information about activities and resources.
This lesson will focus on the Atto text editor. I will explain what it does and show users how to alter text fonts, colours and sizes. I will give a brief overview of all the functions and these functions will be examined in closer detail throughout the rest of the course.
This introduction to the section will introduce learners to Moodle resources, and discuss when it's appropriate to include pages, books and files and folders on to the Moodle course.
This lesson will focus on how to add a page of information to a Moodle course. I will show learners how to edit pages once they have been created, and elude to when to use pages and when not to!
I will discuss the features of a book, before showing learners how to add one to a course page. I will show learners how to add chapters and sub-chapters, and how to edit books once they have been created.
This lesson will show learners how to add a URL to the main course page, and explain when URLs and links should be used.
This lesson will focus on files and folders, and how to add them to the course page. This will include showing learners how to organise folders and how to use compression to make it easier to copy folders of content to the course page.
In this learning activity, I shall ask learners to create several books, pages, files and folders to a moodle course page, in order to allow practising of creating these great resources.
In this examples lesson, i will show learners some examples of pages, books, files and folders.
This lesson continues work on the exemplar course, showing users how to add a page, book, file and folder to the course page. These resources will be configured with test content to show learners how each resource can be used to display content.

I will talk through the meaning of a Moodle activity, along with the types of activity that the section will cover.
Forums are a great method of communicating with your students! I will show learners how to create a forum, along with settings for different types of subscription.
A choice activity is very simple – the teacher asks a question and specifies a choice of multiple responses. Use it as quick poll to stimulate thinking about a topic or to allow the class to vote on a direction for the course . This lesson will show learners how to add choices to your Moodle course.
This lesson will introduce learners to the chat window, and I will show how to configure the chat window in a Moodle course.
This lesson will forcus on adding a glossary activity to Moodle courses.
I shall show learners how to create a simple lesson, using the lesson tool in Moodle.
In this learning activity, I will ask learners to use what tey have learnt in this section to create various moodle activities.
This lesson will focus on examples of chats, choices, glossaries and simple lessons.
I will give an overview of the adding multimedia section, including a discussion on what multimedia is, and why it should be used in Moodle courses. I will also introduce learners to the concept of a theme and how it is used.
I will also introduce the concept of Moodle labels, explaining their power and uses within a course.
In this lesson, learners will be shown how to add images to pages, lessons, labels and books. Students will also be shown how to make images buttons!
I will show learners how to embed audio clips into a Moodle course.
Video is a key part of any eLearning course. Students will be shown how to add video via Moodle, as well as embedding videos from external websites into a Moodle course.
In this learning activity, I shall ask learners to add various multimedia elements to the Moodle course page.
I will show learners examples of how various multimedia elements are used throughout Moodle courses.
This lesson continues work on the exemplar course, showing users how to add various activities to the course page. A forum will be setup and configured, as well as adding choices, chats and a great example lesson.

The course provides a basic introduction to Moodle, for people who have never used Moodle before or have basic understanding of Moodle and want to learn more!
The course begins with the Getting to know Moodle section, where I will explain what a VLE is and what it does, as well as focusing on Moodle itelf. Ill then give a tour of the moodle interface and explain how to edit user profiles and preferences.
Next, I will show learners how to create a new Moodle course, how to add users, and how to enrol these users into various Moodle courses.
The Editing Moodle courses section focuses on introducing learners to the moodle course page, and ill explain how to edit the course, what each of the icons within moodle do and mean, as well as introducing the activity chooser and the Atto text editor.
We will then move on to adding resources such as page, urls, books and files and folders to the course, before adding various learning activities including lessons, chat, choices, forums and glossaries.
The Mutlimedia section focuses on adding variosu multimedia elements throughout your course - including images, video, audio, podcasts and Youtube Videos.
This course is slightly different to other online courses – the course content and lessons will be interspersed with the creation of a special exemplar course, where the skills learnt in the course will be used to build a ready made interactive Moodle course, which will be available for download too!
I have also added 5 learning activities, so that learners can practice what is being taught in the course, and these learning activities add up to create another exemplar course, which is also downloadable.
I ntroduce each lesson with a description, and follow this up by showing learners how to actually do it for yourself. I actively encourage learners to watch the examples lessons, where examples are shown of all the topics covered within the section. I also encourage participants to use the Moodle Cloud course, that we create at the beginning, to practice the things I teach, and build up their confidence and their own set of Moodle courses.
