Five Face Yoga Poses
FACIAL MUSCLES
Ø Muscles of the forehead
· Frontalis: raises the eyebrow and wrinkles the forehead skin.
· Temporalis: raises the jawline.
Ø Muscles of the eyelid
· Orbicularis ocul: encircles the eye; raises the cheek and narrows the eyes.
· Depressor supercilii: medial angle of eye → skin of the eyebrow;
· Corrugator supercilii: above the root of the nose → skin of the eyebrow; draws the eyebrow down and wrinkles the forehead vertically.
Ø Muscles of the eyelid
· Orbicularis oculi: encircles the eye; raises the cheek and narrows the eyes.
· Depressor supercilii: medial angle of eye → skin of the eyebrow;
· Corrugator supercilii: above the root of the nose → skin of the eyebrow; draws the eyebrow down and wrinkles the forehead vertically.
Ø Muscles of the nose
· Nasalis: maxilla → nasal cartilages; compress the nasal cartilage.
· Procerus: nasal bridge → skin between eyebrows; lowers the eyebrows and wrinkles the bridge of the nose.
Ø Muscles of the mouth
· Orbicularis oris: encircles the mouth; compresses, contracts, puckers and wrinkles the lips.
· Buccinator: maxilla and mandible → angle of the mouth. It forms the muscular base of the cheek; compresses the cheeks and expels air between the lips.
· Levator labii superioris: above the infraorbital foramen → elevates the upper lip; medial orbital wall → upper lip and nostrils; raises upper lip and wrinkles the nose.
· Depressor labii inferioris: mandible underneath the mental foramen → lower lip; lowers the lower lip and draw it to one side, as in expressing sarcasm.
· Mentalis: forms the furrow between chin and lip; elevates the lower lip and raises, wrinkles the skin of the chin.
· Risorius ("laughing muscle"): cheek → angle of the mouth; draws the corner of the mouth out and back, as in grinning.
· Levator anguli oris: underneath the infraorbital foramen → angle of the mouth; raises the angle of the mouth and draws it inward.
· Depressor anguli oris: lower border of mandible → angle of the mouth; lowers mouth corner, as frowning.
· Zygomaticus major and minor ("laughing muscle"): zygomatic arch → angle of the mouth; pulls mouth corner lateral upwards, as in laughing.

SIX EXTRAOCULAR MUSCLES
1. Superior Oblique muscle:
Actions: Depression, abduction and medial rotation the eyeball.
2. Inferior Oblique muscle:
Action: Elevation, abduction and lateral rotation the eyeball.
3. Superior Rectus muscles:
Action: Elevation, a few adduction and medial rotation of the eyeball.
4. Inferior Rectus muscles:
Action: Depression, a few adduction and lateral rotation of the eyeball.
5. Medial rectus muscles:
Action: Adducts (pulls the eye towards the nose) the eyeball.
6. Lateral Rectus muscles:
Action: Abducts (pulls the eye away from the nose) the eyeball.
Explore eye yoga exercises based on the Baits method to relax eye muscles and improve vision. Practice includes splashing, blinking, palming, and various eye movements.
NECK EXERCISE
The neck exercises relax the tension muscles of the neck. Do exercise for 5 minutes.
1. Backward and Forward Circular Shoulder Movement:
· Stand with your arms down at your sides.
· Roll your shoulders backward in a circular motion.
· Repeat 10 rotations.
· Then roll your shoulders forward 10 rotations.
2. Neck Rotation:
· Stand or sit in comfortable pose.
· Tilt your neck to the right.
· Hold for 10 seconds.
· Roll your head to the left.
· Hold for 10 seconds.
· Relax.
3. Overhead Arm Stretch
· Extend your right arm up above your head and reach to the left.
· Bend your torso until you feel the stretch in your right shoulder.
· Return to start.
· Repeat 5 times.
· Then do the same thing with your left arm.
4. Front-Back Head Bend:
· Bend your chin on your chest.
· Relax your neck.
· Then raise your head and tilt it as far back as possible.
· Repeat 10 times.
5. Right to Left Head Bend:
· Bend your head to the right.
· Hold the pose for 10 seconds, relax.
· Bend your head to the left.
· Hold your pose for 10 seconds, relax.
· Repeat 5 times.
6. Right and Left Turn Head:
· Turn your head to the left.
· Hold the pose for 10 seconds, relax.
· Turn your head to the right.
· Hold the pose for 10 seconds, relax.
· Return to the start position.
· Repeat 5 times.
7. Circular Head Movement:
· Move your head clockwise direction.
· Repeat 5 times.
· Then anticlockwise direction.
· Repeat 5 times.
8. Shoulder Scapular Squeeze:
· Squeeze your shoulder blades together.
· Hold pose for 10 seconds.
· Repeat 5 times.
9. Wall Push - Up:
· Start with feet approximately shoulder width apart.
· Place hands against wall slightly below shoulder level and elbows straight.
· Bend elbows while keep your head in a neutral position.
· Repeat 10 times.
10. Doorway Stretch:
· Stand in a doorway with hands and arms out to the side.
· Keep forearms flat on door frame.
· Take one step forward with one leg to feel a comfortable stretch in chest region.
· Hold that position for 10 seconds.
· Repeat 5 times.
