  • Introduction1:18

Don't be fooled. Shooting is the NUMBER ONE SKILL you need to develop as a basketball player. You win the game by scoring more than the other team. The ability to score the ball, primarily shoot the ball with consistency and reliability is the most important skill needed in basketball. The ceiling on your game is directly correlated with your ability to shoot the ball effectively. Once you can shoot the ball, every other aspect of the game becomes a lot easier.

  • What is the most important skill in basketball?
  • Self PRE TEST0:07

You need to start with a baseline test for yourself. Take 30 shots and tally them up and save it for later. (10- 3 pointers at the top of the key, 10- from the left elbow and 10- from the right elbow)

  • Test Your Natural Range2:02

Do this quick and easy test to see potential range you have in your shot.

  • Where's the BBB-EEE-FFF ???4:38

After teaching the art of shooting to many people I’ve added more details to the old BEEF acronym.

  • BBB-EEE-FFF Detailed Description2:50
  • BBB EEE FFF CHECK LIST
  • Start Over0:40

It's very hard to learn something new, if you think you already know how to do it. If you're a student in this course you want to learn how to shoot better than where you currently are. Give yourself the full commitment of watching and learning everything in the course before you try to adjust or blend what you know with what you are about to learn. Somethings may overlap, somethings may be completely different than what you 'know'. Easiest way and most effective way to approach this course is start over completely. Come in with clear and open mind.

  • You are your Habits
  • Understand Your Movement0:16

If you can understand how you're body needs to move to perform a jump shot you will be light years ahead of your competition. Shooting a jump shot is complex coordinated movement that is difficult to master. Learning all of this will take you a very long time that I will not get into. Instead of giving you the details of it all go to the Common Problem with Body Movement Lecture to see some common problems, probably causes, and quick fixes.

  • The 3 Main Components of a Highly Effective Shooter1:51

Arms for Aim, Legs for Lift, Timing for Touch

  • I know someone who shoots with really ugly form.
  • Starting Position, Ending Position3:05

Learn Ball Placement, Hand Placement, Foot Placement, and Body Placement. If you start in the same spot every time you have a better chance of making your shot.

  • Shooting From a Hop1:10

Shooting from a hop has less physical demand on your body and is typically where most beginners start. Shooting from a hop is less demanding on the body because you are loading your weight on two legs and then exploding with two legs. The bending portion or the the loading portion of your bodyweight's force is distributed amongst both legs. Shooting from a hop can be done with relatively little strength requirement and can be advantageous to shoot from a hop when going at sharp angles and fast speeds.

  • Shooting from A One-Two Step1:20

The other way to shoot is off a One-Two Step. Some will call it a Pull Up Jumpshot some will call it Stepping into Your Shot. Other times you can also refer to this type of shot as inside leg, outside leg. Those are commonly used terms used to describe the type of shot but when teaching it, i refer to the legs in terms of force absorption. The first leg is the load leg and the second leg is the explode leg.

  • Best Drill to... Improve Aim0:52

If you find yourself having difficulty controlling aim of your shot this would be the drill for you. If you have a lot of misses going everywhere it is important you work on this before moving on. Not all misses are created equal. Left and Right misses are worse than long and short misses.

  • Best Drill to... Improve Lift1:15

Balls coming up way short or way long? Use this drill to hone the power of your legs.

  • Best Drill to...Improve Timing1:22

Shooting a basketball can be extremely easy as well extremely hard. If your having trouble with the timing and coordination of bending and extending this is the drill for you. Getting the proper timing and coordination to shoot a pure shot is fine tuned over repetition until it becomes all muscle memory. This drill can help speed that process up.

  • Best Drill to...Improve Overall Shooting2:43

You've got the 3 main components down, now it's time to test them out with something a little more realistic. If you've gotten this far than you are well on your way to becoming a great shooter!

  • Line Drill Game- Highly Recommend!!!0:52

Get on a Line and Test this Game out. You have Ten Shots to get Ten Points. If you're a beginner under 8 is common. If you're intermediate under 12. If you're advanced under 16. Elite is over 16. Shoot ten shots, make sure they all go high enough in the air and replicate normal shots. If the ball lands on the anywhere along the line (and line extended) you get one point. If you hit the target you get two points. Great game way to challenge yourself. Also can be used in pairs to compete.
