Learn to transform clothing you own into a custom design by mastering fabric selection, pattern making, and the sewing process through practical sewing technique tutorials.
Plan your garment design—sketch a rough drawing and select a template, then modify the pattern; measure, pin, adjust neck, panels, and length, and consider comfort, versatility, and longevity.
Shop discount fabric sections and thrift stores to save money, upcycling jackets and blouses into new garments while noting fabric type and how to wash and iron before cutting.
Trace, modify, and redraw a pattern from your template garment to shape front and back panels and sleeves, then add seam allowances and cut fabric with mirrored pieces.
Learn practical sewing safety and step-by-step garment construction, from keeping hands clear of the needle to pinning, fitting, zigzag finishing, top stitching, hemming, and attaching sleeves and ties.
Master practical sewing techniques from pinning to keep fabric aligned, to zigzag and topstitch edges. Create ties, ruffles, and curved shapes with simple methods for seams.
Master elastic waist construction, button and detachable zipper closures, pockets, darts, collars, bias trim, and upcycling scraps, using zigzag stitches and topstitching.
Fix common sewing mistakes with practical tips for stretch fabrics, needle types, stitch length, thread tension, and seam removal, and turn flaws into character with clever design tweaks.
Log pattern changes for future reuse, note adjustments on the paper pattern, and organize patterns in envelopes with brief outside notes for easy reference.
