Self-Publish Paperback Books With Images Using Createspace

In this video I show you how to easily transfer your existing kindle book or ebook into the Createspace template provided. You'll be able to do this and keep the existing format in place.

This video shows you how to use the bulk copy and paste method and what you need to update afterwards.

In case you need a different trim size for your book here is a quick way of altering it using existing templates.

This video shows you how to assign the correct heading style to your chapter and sub chapter headings. Also we will make sure that all main chapters start on a new page.

In this video I'll show you how to change the position and style of page numbers in case you would like to alter it in the template.

This video shows you how to optimize the layout of your book so that it will look correct as a physical book. For example, new chapters should always begin on the right hand side of a book.

Hyperlinks won't work in a physical book and so we need to alter them to 'easy to remember' links that are written out in full.

If you are using affiliate links within your book then here are some ideas of how best to do this.

To keep all resources and links together it is best to create a page on your website with all the details. This makes it easier for your readers as they can then bookmark this page.

This video shows you how to upload your file to Createspace. We will upload a word document (.docx). See later for a video showing how to upload a PDF version instead.

Once your file is uploaded you can view it to see what errors there might be and how it looks. The interior reviewer tool makes this very easy.The book we've uploaded currently has 2 issues.

We need a free tool called doPDF to successfully convert the word document to a PDF which embeds the font.

This video shows you how to easily find out the DPI of any image.

In this video we will use use free software to alter the DPI of an image and discover what happens to the print size.

In this video we will optimize an image using Paint.net so that the resolution and size is correct for printing.

In this video we'll add a plugin called Sharpen+ to Paint.net. This will enable us to sharpen the image and make it look better.

In addition we will use a free file zipping software called 7 Zip.

See for yourself how the sharpen+ effect makes the image look better.

It is best to save the image as a JPEG file. In this video you'll see why and how to do this.

Now we'll update the old images to the optimized ones in Word.

Now we'll check that the new images pass the Createspace interior reviewer.

Also check that there is a blank page at the end of the book.

Color books are more expensive and therefore it is best to convert color images to black and white before uploading to Createspace.

In this video we'll look at how to add full bleed images and what you need to do to the Word document page size beforehand.

This video shows how to use the Createspace tool to create a cover. It is similar to the KDP tool.

In this video we'll create the front of the book cover using Paint.net. If you already have a kindle book then use this as your front cover image.

In this video we'll create the back of the book cover using Paint.net. This is usually the same color as the background of the front cover.

This video shows you how to download the editable text plugin to Paint.net. This is very useful because you can come back and edit any text which you can't do with the default Paint.net settings.

Here we edit the text on the back cover using the text editing plugin. Using a duplicate layer makes it easier.

In this video we'll take a look at the pricing of some well known indie authors and come up with a plan for pricing paperback books.

You can set up a fully customized eStore sales page. This is how it works. We will use an online editor to create a better looking decription.

You can set up discount codes within Createspace for friends, family, resellers, followers, etc. These codes only work on your eStore sales page though.

Sometimes you might notice a discount on Amazon for a paperback book - one published using Createspace. In this video we'll take a look at an example of this and discuss why it is showing.

To help make the description on your eStore sales page look better we are going to use HTML code. I use a free online tool for this.

In this video we'll research some keywords for the book and then add them to the eStore setup page.

We'll use a useful website to help determine the BISAC Category for the book.

The digital proofer tool within Createspace is very handy for your initial check. Make sure new chapters start on the right hand side. Check that your book cover looks good and the important text is visible. Make sure you have a blank page at the end of your book.

Then you can download and print a PDF copy for further editing.

After printing out the PDF copy I decided to alter the layout of the book to a more modern look. In this video we'll see what happens to the total number of pages and the effect if any, on potential royalties.

When you order your proof copy you pay for the costs and shipping only. This is when you start getting excited and watching the mail box! :)

If you find anything that needs editing then you need to upload your document to Createspace again and wait for it to be reviewed again. In this video I'm going to do that.

Once you are happy that your book looks good and there are no more errors it is time to go live! If you need to contact Createspace at any stage then this is easily done using the contact form.

You can publish a kindle version of your paperback book via Createspace. However, the layout is not as good as doing the kindle book version yourself. To enable you to create a kindle version I have included a Word template for you to use.

When you already have a kindle book version you need to specify this to Createspace. In this video we'll see how this is done.

In order to set up Match Price you need to log into your KDP account. In this video we'll look at how this is done.
