The virtual world is becoming more and more commonplace, to such an extent that we can’t escape it anymore in our daily lives. For some, it serves as entertainment, for others it is the new work environment.
But what is hidden behind these digital worlds that are increasingly becoming a part of our lives? Who gives them shape, and to what extent will they take a greater place in our lives?
The course , based on the book 'Super Focus' provides insight into how the infrastructure is designed; what are the building blocks, what kinds of crafts have arisen and where is this world going? The creative making process is made insightful through many personal stories and you are taken step by step into the emergence of a world that will soon become an integral part of our current existence, also known as the Metaverse.
Rob Tuytel (author) is co-founder of the CC0 platform Polyhaven, a platform used by millions of users to design virtual worlds. He has also taught more than 80,000 students to impart his knowledge about the creation of virtual landscapes. His latest work (Batavia 1627 VR) is currently available to be admired in the museum of the golden age.

Who this course is for:
- newcomers, but also for advanced designers
My name is Rob Tuytel and I have been a full time Blender user for the last 15 years. I have always loved using my imagination to create 3D art and Blender has been the right tool to help me with this.
Even before I started using Blender, I always loved environments. When I started to create them, I studied art books in order to be able to design these kinds of scenes in Blender.
My 3D artwork is now used in art books, featured in 3D artist magazine, museums, and even appears on nationwide television. I was honored to be asked to create environment scenes for the Blender Institute open movie Tears of Steel. This was a fantastic learning opportunity that allowed me to work with other environment artists. Learning new skills in such a project is one of the best ways artists can bring themselves to a higher level.
Together with Greg Zahl I run the Polyhaven platform. Providing free high quality texture and model scans. To see more of my work you can visit my Artstation profile page.
