A short introduction into the course!
Let's lay down some ground rules!
Going over the concept art for our sculpts and the sculpting approach!
Our first speed sculpting session! For this one i am using Zspheres as a starting point! Excited to get into it!
Our second speed sculpting session! In this one we tackle a plant, starting from a sphere!
This is a challenge indeed! A lot of parts and elements, so little time!
I love this one, doing a creature bust as a speed sculpt! No way through it but to do it! :)
Last but not least- Baby Yoda! So cute, and so much to do! Let's get it on!
Here you can download all the Zbrush tools and Zbrush Project that also have the undo history so you can see all my strokes for educational purposes!
Let's start this project, from a cube to a stone block!
Building that stone, layer by layer!
I love trim dynamic!
Time to start adding some details!
You can never have enough fine details! :)
Time to wrap it up!
Polypainting time!
Taking this into Keyshot! IMPORTANT- If you don't know how to use Keyshot, I got you covered- head over to Section 8 -KEYSHOT for the Keyshot tutorial and come back after that! Another thing- I use the Keyshot scene from the Stone Apple assignment that is just under this one, so if you want to see how I made it, jump over there to Lecture 19: Stone Apple part 03- rendering in Keyshot!
Now that we get stone, let's take our very first sculpt from my previous course- the apple- and turn it into stone! If you don't have it you can download it here!
Time to do some polypainting!
Going into Keyshot to render our apple! If you don't have Keyshot you can use your preferred rendered and have fun with it there!
Here you can download all the Zbrush tools and Zbrush Project that also have the undo history so you can see all my strokes for educational purposes!
Let's learn how to do folds! It requires a subtle touch, smooth brush and skill to make that perfect stroke! Let's get it on!
Let's take our folds and turn them into stylized folds- Arkane style!
Sculpt a soft pillow in Zbrush by starting from a box, using Z remesh to remove star junctions, enabling symmetry and smooth folds with the smooth brush and subdivision.
Slow but steady wins the race- no rushing through the fold as each stroke needs to be perfect!
Finishing up the sculpt! Looking great if you don't mind me saying so! Patience payed of!
Creating our own IMM brush for stitching and using curves in a cool way as well! Definitely a session not to be missed!
Taking it into Keyshot and trying out Keyshot's RealCloth materials! I'm loving it!
Taking our render into Photoshop to do some final tweaking and color correction to get our hero shot! Looking amazing!

Let's start our journey with some ref images and Zspheres!
It's super important to have a solid base mesh! Never rush through this part of the sculpt!
Last tweaks to the base mesh and adding our first subdivision levels to start sculpting!
Base form done, we are taking care of other crucial details!
Time to add polypaint that will also help us with adding small details! I use a cool trick with morph brush to transfer the polypaint data from our ref images!
I love this method and i love how the banana is looking so far! Polypaint magic!
Time to do polypainting by hand and finish the polypaint!
Main form is finished, polypaint is finished! A normal person would call this done, but we're not normal and we're not finished, not by a long shot! :) Detailing time!
It's all about building up that surface, peel by peel!
A complex surface takes time, but it's so rewarding to watch it all slowly come together!
Now we start getting into even more details, breaking up the surface and getting that organic feel!
Adding some additional parts to the peel that will take it even further into realism!
Banana has more than one peel and we have to get to them all!
Adding more accessories to the sculpt! Loving this!
Some more coolness!
Adding finishing touches to the peel and wrapping it up! It took some time and patience but the result makes it all worthwhile! If you made it to here- big congratulations to you!
After finishing up the peel now it's time to get into the center of the banana! It aint over yet so hunker down and let's get it going!
And in this session we are finishing the sculpting!! Amazing, what a journey! And the sculpt looks freaking amazing! Better than my wildest expectations for this project! If you made it to here- you're a sculpting beast!
Now that the bana is done we need to rendered it out! Zbrish can not get us the realism we are after for this render so we need to go to an outside renderer for that! My choice is Keyshot! But to do that we need to prepare the sculpt for export! Let's get it on!
Once everything is ready time to export!
Time to import into Keyshot all the parts we exported from Zbrush! Rendering journey starts now!
Making the banana peel surface! It's all about tweaking those settings to get that nice subsurface organic feel that complements our sculpt and looks awesome!
Inner part of the banana! It's yummy to eat but quite challenging to surface! :)
So, I had an idea to do an homage to the banana taped to the wall conceptual art that rocked the art world! It expands our project into the realm of conceptual art and I love that!
Follow a ZBrush sculpting workflow to extrude thickness early, control crease for sharp edges, and build duct tape texture with lines, bubbles, and edge breaks before exporting to Keyshot.
Let's add the finishing touches to our duck tape and bring it into the realm of photorealism that matches the banana!
Done with sculpting, now it's time to bring it into Keyshot and finish it up with an awesome surfacing!
When rendering i just noticed some things in the sculpt that bothered me and you should never be to lazy to fix the mistakes you notice later on! Specially when we are dealing with such a beautiful sculpt like this, that just demands perfection!
Finally we are there, getting into the last legs of this colossal and amazing project! Time to make it all come together, showing of all that hard work in a beautiful final render!
And it's done!! If you made it to the end give your self a huge pat on the back!! What an amazing project, and the end results speak for them self! Could not be more happier with it! It's been super fun and challenging, but now- what's next! :)
Here you can download the Zbrush Tool as well as all other project files!
Here you can download the Keyshot scene and all the files associated with it!
Starting from as box! It's always hard at the beginning but you got to trust it and have the vision!
Map out the eye area with standard, build the form with clay buildup, then refine with smoothing and trim dynamic across subdivisions for clean lines.
Learn to sculpt the iris in David's eye using trim dynamic, masking, and subdivision steps, then apply quick polypainting with color variance and subtle dirt for realism.
Here you can download all the Zbrush tools and Zbrush Project that also have the undo history so you can see all my strokes for educational purposes!
Refine the anvil block in zbrush by trimming dynamic to erase horizontal lines, smoothing surfaces, and using subdivision levels to pinch, fill, and sharpen details.
Finish the wood block in ZBrush by refining topology, using trim dynamic to smooth edges, and pushing deformations to create separation from the main block.
Sculpt an anvil block in ZBrush by creating nails with cylinders, masking and sculpting with clay buildup and Scultris Pro, then add rust, wood texture, and subtle damage for realism.
I decided to texture this in Substance Painter rather than polypainting it manually in Zbrush. It's not just because I was lazy to do it, it's also to show you how it can be done super quickly using Substance Painter! I did it for you guys! :)
If you don't want to bother with the texturing, here's a video where I go over doing a beautiful clay render of your sculpt! So easy and quick in Keyshot, the main reason i love it so much!
Open clown pass in Photoshop; blend layers, adjust brightness with an adjustment layer, apply lens correction, and fine-tune with masks for a final clay render.
Time to take those textures we generated in Substance Painter and bring them into Keyshot!
Last step! Congrats on making it this far! An amazing sculpt indeed, and a beautiful render! Now it's time to bring it home with some final adjustments and color correction in Photoshop!
Here you can download the Zbrush tool for educational purposes!
Here you can download the Keyshot scene and all the files associated with it! Clay render as well as normal render. Also you will find a Clay material- Clay_Render_materials.kpm. You can load these materials into your keyshot material library by pressing the import icon in the Materials tab.
Explore Keyshot's material graph and nodes to create clay renders with paint materials, adjust roughness and color, set up lighting for definition, and save materials to a library.
Learn to render sculpted surfaces in Keyshot: set outputs, enable clown passes, shadow, ambient occlusion passes, render regions, and create turntable animations with the animation wizard.
