Requirements
- No screenwriting software needed to take this course and write an amazing script. You will need a word processing program, such as OpenOffice or Word. I actually discourage using any of the screenwriting software.
Description
We are going to write THE script for the movie. The real script. The script that will become the movie, that everyone on the cast and crew will use to film the movie. We're not writing a speculative script.
Speculative scripts are what I call wannabes. People write speculative scripts because they wannabe screenwriters. They want someone to recognize them and hire them to write other movies. They use a lot of colorful language to describe the scenery and they create an easy to read fantasy movie. But they have to be rewritten in order to actually be made into movies. We're skipping the wannabe movie and going straight to the real thing.

My forty years of experience writing and producing films taught me how to write movies people love. In this course I'm sharing what I've learned with you. I approach screenwriting with a lot of joy and excitement for adventure.

I work outside the entertainment industry's studio system creating truly independent feature films for niche audiences who are not being served by the major corporations which dominate Hollywood.
I am a writer, director, producer and editor and make a new feature film in a year. I have eleven feature films in global distribution, another film in post-production and three more features in development.
My movies have been translated into dozens of languages and seen by millions of people. I've sold my films at the European Film Market in Berlin, Germany. In addition to film festivals, I've been flown to private screenings hosted by film fans and funders. Screenwriters hire me as their script doctor to make their stories 'work.' Filmmakers hire me to schedule and budget projects.
I started my career working as a union actor in Hollywood. By watching seasoned professionals I learned how to produce and direct my own films.
Most importantly I learned from their mistakes.
I still perform in front of the camera and record audiobooks because it's fun. My primary career is producing and directing feature films.
I love teaching new filmmakers about this incredibly exciting, fulfilling craft. I've guest lectured at UCLA Film School and helped students from NYU, Columbia, School for Visual Arts in New York, and the film program at the University of Texas, Austin.
