Having now gained an understanding of the impact of sound in general, as well as the basics of Sanskrit sound let us begin to learn some Mantras.
Please watch the following presentations.
Now please choose a mantra for yourself that you feel particularly drawn to and begin to chant it on a regular basis. Do it loud, with a clear voice, and also quietly, with your inner voice, in meditation. Observe the effect it has on you.
SAN KALPA
Now that you have a profound understanding of the impact of sound and words, it is a good time to begin to work with a personal San Kalpa.
A San Kalpa is a profound, sacred intention that will serve you on your spiritual journey. It is like a sacred seed that is planted deep into your mind, where it will be watered and nourished on a regular basis. Soon it will begin to grow tall and strong, overtaking other, lower samskaras.
Choose your San Kalpa wisely, preferably during a meditation. Let it come to you. Try not to choose it with your mind. Choose it with your heart. Use a sentence that begins with "I am..." and then add what you wish. "I am free." "I am divine love" "I am healthy and strong" etc. Choose whichever is the right one for you, on your path. But try to not change it until you feel that it has come to fruition. Work with it for many weeks, months, maybe years.
Now find a quiet time and place and listen to the following Audio file:
In this additional lecture you will have the opportunity to chant a longer text with meIn this bonus lecture you will have the opportunity to chant a longer text with me. And why would I do that you might wonder. Well for one, if you are a yoga teacher or a serious yoga practitioner then you might be familiar with the Yoga Sutra - the ancient classical text on Yoga and mental health. Given all the things you now know about Sanskrit, you can imaging that chanting this text in Sanskrit will plant the meaning of it even deeper into your subconscious mind. And even if you are not familiar with this text, try it anyway and observe the effect it has on your brain. Chanting a longer text in Sanskrit will activate new neural connections in regions of your brain that may have been dormant before and you will likely feel more focused, alert and energised when you practice this fully.
Try it out!
I would love to know how you feel after this practice (or one of the other mantra practices in this course).
I would be grateful if you could drop me some feedback!
Welcome to Sanskrit Mantra Magic – a course designed to introduce you to the beauty, depth, and transformative power of the Sanskrit language and Mantra Practice.
In this course, you’ll discover why Sanskrit is often called the “language of the gods” — not just because of its spiritual origins, but because of the vibrational precision and healing potential held within each sound. Sanskrit is much more than an ancient script — it’s a sound-based technology for balancing the nervous system, focusing the mind, and connecting with deeper levels of awareness.
We’ll begin with an exploration of the Sanskrit alphabet and its unique phonetic structure, learning how these sounds resonate within the body and energy system. You'll come to see Sanskrit as a powerful sound healing tool — and learn why so many mantra-based practices rely on its precise vibration.
Once you've built a basic foundation, we’ll dive into chanting essential mantras — from simple bija (seed) mantras to traditional Vedic mantras like the Gayatri Mantra and the Ashtanga Opening Mantra. As a special bonus, you'll also have the opportunity to chant an entire chapter of the Yoga Sūtras with me.
Let’s begin this journey into sacred sound — and awaken the powerful healing voice within you.
YOU CAN NOW REGISTER THIS COURSE FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION ON YOGA ALLIANCE.
