We will be making a game based on an old Apple II game Sabotage. In this lecture we will setup the project and copy in the images we will use. We start by setting up the scene and making the cannon and adding controls.
What good is a cannon that doesn't shoot? Lets fix this by adding bullets and something to shoot at. Helicopters!
We need more Helicopters, so we build an Air Traffic Controller to launch and manage them. We don't want them running into each other. Now we have a TARGET RICH ENVIRONMENT.
We blow up helicopters into flying bits of shrapnel. Next we have paratroopers jump out of the helicopters.
We teach the troopers what bullets are, and we make them bleed. Oh boy, do they bleed. We also teach them the perils of losing your parachute. It is a hard life in the army.
We add a score board and teach the game objects how to add/subtract from it. We also write code to detect the end of game condition.
We teach the troopers how to storm the building and destroy the cannon. We also create some fireworks for the finale.
We add sound effects to the game to finish it up. Shots, explosions, falling, screams. What's not to like. We wrap up with some game play at the end.
We will make a game based on an old Apple II game called Sabotage. In the process we will cover several helpful skills in Unity.
Learn the coordinate system for GameObjects
Turn images into Sprites and control them on the screen
Read the mouse position and convert it into rotational value
Change the pivot point for sprites (images)
Creating Sprite prefabs and Instantiating them
Creating smooth movements using Time.deltaTime
Using Tags to organize GameObjects and overcoming limitations of prefabs
Creating child GameObjects to join Sprites together
Creating particle systems and sub-emmiters
Creating UI text fields for keeping score
Adjusting UI canvas to fit the game area
Adding sounds to GameObjects
Creating stand-alone game sound objects
You won't even realize you learned these things because you will be having so much fun!
