Rock Guitar Rhythm Lessons Course

Welcome to the course! A little bit about myself and what we will be covering in this course.

How to get multiple tones and gain levels by just using the controls on the guitar.

Using your fret hand to mute strings. This can also be used to create interesting rhythms.

Picking with only down strokes to achieve a very tight attack and uniform tone.

Right hand techniques and feels to use when strumming different genres.

Incorporating alternate picking to be able to pick through chords and riffs.

Understanding and using different rhythms and accents to make parts unique.

Playing with dynamics to achieve different tones and volumes by using your touch.

A brief overview of major and minor chords in a key and how they work together.

The ultimate rock and roll chord! What it is and how to use it all over.

Some basic chords that are all in the same position. These can be used for many different styles.

Starting to deep dive into some moveable major and minor two note shapes. These can really start to shape the mood of a song.

Expanding the 2 note section to 3 notes. This gives a lot more tonal options and fullness.

Brief overview of the CAGED system and how to invert your chords to achieve different sounds and smoother transitions.

Taking basic major and minor chords and extending them with other scale tones for more unique voicings.

Taking our previous chord sections and moving them around a steady drone note. This establishes a firm, but interesting key center.

Getting into the idea of explaining a riff, one of the most important ideas of a rock player.

Taking what we have already learned and using those techniques and ideas to start creating riffs.

Taking a musical idea and moving it up and down the neck and across the strings. All while keeping the same idea intact.

Talking about creating a musical idea around a chord progression and how to make the two work together.

Using the fundamentals to take a riff in new directions and make it work in a song.

Let’s create a song together! Here’s a breakdown of the sections we’ll cover.

Setting up an intro to a song and getting the feel right for the rest of the song.

Building on the elements of the intro and starting to play behind vocals.

The biggest part of the song. How to use the different techniques we’ve learned to make it powerful.

This section will normally take the song in a slightly new direction or feature a solo.

Playing through the song we’ve created together and fitting all the parts together.

A few ideas on playing with other musicians and how to make your part fit in.
