In this video we have the overview of the course and each of its seven chapters.
In the first chapter of the course we will touch the nature of risks in supply chain management. We will look through the biggest reasons of risks here.
There are many uncertainties connected to sales forecasting (which as we know can result in a big problem for supply), there are also many market-specific risks connected to manufacturing or raw material sourcing, to the retail and logistic, of course from time to time we can face different kinds of quality problems...
We have many global challenges nowadays, and we need to consider them in any Supply Chain and Procurement operations:
Growing competition and price reduction pressure
Globalization and increasing complexity of supply chains
Technology, innovations and increasing speed of development
Changing climate
Let me tell you one story. This is a real story of the big international supply chain scandal that has happened in Europe in 2013. And to my mind this represents how complex our supply chains are today and how high risks can be here
Please read the article by John Westerveld - Innovative Approaches to Supply Chain Risk. Great thoughts here. Save the pictures as well ;)
There are lots and lots of the potential risks. And it is easy to get lost in them.
So what we propose you is to structure those risk for the categories. And in Supply Chain management we have three major categories of risks:
price risks,
supply risks
supplier risks
So now we come to the core of this training. We will learn about how can we assess all kinds of risks, how we can prioritize and act upon different risks?
Here we consider different aspects of risks:
Political
Economical
Social
Technological
Ecological
Legal
In this part we pay a special attention to the risks connected to outsourcing and insourcing decisions in the supply chain.
Outsourcing and insourcing decisions are normally very attractive from the financial point of view. And it looks great and logical from the first glance, but when you evaluate the risks – you can start hesitating… or at least see the other side of the coin.
In this chapter you have a chance to get the practical recommendations regarding building the professional relations with your suppliers! It is my own methodology which is called TRUST Approach
This part will be the shortest but for me it is very important to underline for all of you – your work matters! And your procurement decisions and supply decisions can influence not only the financial situation of the suppliers or the supply chain players. It can influence many people’s lives, environment and communities around the supply chain links.
So take the social and environmental risks into account when having any decision into account.
So to make the short summary of what should you start doing after this course.
