  • Introduction of Pcod0:42

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. It occurs when the ovaries produce excessive amounts of immature or partially mature eggs, which over time develop into multiple small cysts. This condition is primarily linked to hormonal imbalance, particularly an excess of androgens (male hormones) and irregular secretion of estrogen and progesterone.

Women with PCOD often experience irregular menstrual cycles, weight gain, acne, hair fall, excessive facial or body hair (hirsutism), and difficulty in conceiving. Insulin resistance is also commonly associated with PCOD, making women more prone to obesity and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

Although PCOD is not completely curable, it is a manageable condition. With the right combination of lifestyle modifications such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, yoga, and sometimes medical treatment, women can regulate their periods, improve fertility, and control other symptoms.

  • Role of Male Harmone0:53

Androgens are male hormones (like testosterone, DHEA-S, androstenedione). Women also produce small amounts of them in ovaries and adrenal glands.

    ? How Androgens Affect PCOD/PCOS

In PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), the balance of female (estrogen & progesterone) and male (androgen) hormones gets disturbed.

Here’s how excess androgens impact PCOD:

    1. Ovulation Disruption

      • High androgens prevent eggs from maturing properly.

      • This leads to multiple immature follicles in the ovaries (the “cysts” in PCOD).

      • Result → irregular or absent periods.

    2. Insulin Resistance Link

      • High insulin (from insulin resistance) stimulates ovaries to produce more androgens.

      • More androgens worsen PCOD → creating a vicious cycle.

    3. Physical Symptoms

      • Hirsutism (unwanted hair on face, chest, back).

      • Acne & oily skin (androgens stimulate sebaceous glands).

      • Hair thinning / male-pattern baldness on scalp.

    4. Weight & Metabolism

      • High androgen levels promote abdominal fat storage.

      • This fat tissue itself produces inflammatory chemicals → worsening insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance.

    5. Mood & Mental Health

      • Fluctuations in androgens can affect mood, causing anxiety, irritability, or low confidence in many women with PCOD.

  • Type of Pcod2:16

    Insulin-Resistant PCOD

? This is the most common type of PCOD.

    ? What Happens?

    • Body cells don’t respond properly to insulin → blood sugar stays high.

    • Pancreas makes more insulin to compensate.

    • High insulin stimulates ovaries to make excess androgens (male hormones).

    • Androgens block egg maturation → irregular periods + cysts.

    ? Symptoms

    • Weight gain (especially belly fat).

    • Constant sugar cravings & fatigue.

    • Dark velvety patches on skin (neck, armpits = acanthosis nigricans).

    • Irregular cycles, acne, hirsutism (hair growth).

    ? Root Cause

    • Poor diet (high sugar, refined carbs).

    • Sedentary lifestyle.

    • Genetics.

    ? 2. Adrenal PCOD

? This type is linked to stress hormones (cortisol + adrenal androgens).

    ? What Happens?

    • Adrenal glands (above kidneys) release DHEA-S (a male hormone) in high amounts.

    • Unlike insulin-resistant PCOD, this form isn’t always linked to weight gain.

    • Triggered by chronic stress, poor sleep, trauma, anxiety.

    ? Symptoms

    • Normal weight or even underweight.

    • Irregular or missed periods.

    • High stress/anxiety levels.

    • Acne, hair growth (but may be milder than insulin-resistant PCOD).

    • Fatigue, brain fog.

    ? Root Cause

    • Overactive HPA axis (hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal system).

    • Chronic stress keeps adrenal glands releasing cortisol + androgens.

Requirements

  • Anyone can do this
