This mini-lecture introduces the Renewable Energy - evaluation Tool for biogas heating (RE-eToolbiogas_htg). Covering the main sections of the too, how it is arranged and what types of questions it is used to inform.

Requirements

  • No experience necessary but ability to learn basic engineering, mathematical, financial & spreadsheet understanding will help maximise the learning experience.

Description

The world continues on it’s transition to a greener future…technologies are evolving, new markets are opening, new policies are taking over, new funding continues to come on stream around the world for more low carbon energy sources & systems.

In this course we look at biogas systems from the basics right up to how to evaluate the various system options…through the use of a tool developed specifically for biogas options in providing heating for a building or group of buildings…this is our version 1 RE-eTool.

In this course you will learn about biogas systems and how they are used for heating buildings. The course covers all the main options for implementing a biogas project and includes a spreadsheet based evaluation tool (RE-eTool). The RE-eTool can be used to quickly quantify the energy, carbon and financial performance of user defined combinations of design options. Answer important question such as:

• What size of a biogas plant would be needed to meet a building projects annual heat demand?

• What would the capital cost be?

• How much would it cost to operate?

• Would it have a lower running cost than a conventional heating source?

• What would the financial performance be in the future?

• How much CO2 would it save?

• What impact do biogas heating project options have on its energy, carbon & financial performance?

See you on the course!
