Course Introduction
Welcome to the 2nd course in our Gongbi Painting Series.
In the previous course, you developed a structured approach to line work and layered coloring. In this course, we move further into control and refinement, focusing on how to handle smoother surfaces, softer transitions, and more subtle tonal variations.
The calla lily presents a different type of challenge. Rather than complexity in structure, it requires precision in simplicity—where small changes in water, tone, and edge become more visible and more important.
You will also begin working with techniques that rely on careful water management, including controlled blending and the use of reserved water lines, particularly in the treatment of leaves.
This course is designed to strengthen your ability to work with greater sensitivity and control, while maintaining the same structured process introduced earlier.
Course Objective
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Apply core techniques with greater precision and consistency
Manage smooth transitions and continuous surfaces effectively
Use techniques such as blending (碰染) and reserving water lines (水線) in a controlled way
Understand how different types of sized rice paper influence the painting process
Use white color as a subtle tool for adjustment and refinement
Complete a calla lily painting using a structured and controlled workflow
The course is designed to strengthen your ability to handle more delicate tonal variations and cleaner transitions, building on the foundation established in the previous course.
The goal is not to introduce a new method, but to deepen your control within the same system, allowing for a more refined and stable result.
