Human relationships have undergone significant changes throughout history.
For over 2.5 million years, humans have been evolving, but it was only 70,000 years ago that Homo sapiens emerged as a species. During this time, humans lived in small, nomadic groups and practiced polygamy, with no concept of monogamy.
Around 12,000 years ago, the agricultural revolution took place, and humans transitioned from a nomadic lifestyle to a sedentary one. This was the birth of the nuclear family, and monogamy began to be favored, with evidence of marriages being recorded.
During the ancient Greeks and Romans period (8th century BCE to 4th century CE), marriage was considered an institution, and fidelity was expected of both men and women. However, adultery was commonplace among men, while women were expected to be faithful.
In medieval Europe (5th to 15th century), marriage was primarily an economic arrangement, with the Church having significant control over it. Love and affection were secondary to the practicalities of maintaining wealth and power, with arranged marriages being common.
In the 18th century, marriage became more about love and companionship in Western society, with the idea of marrying for love gaining popularity. In the 20th century, the concept of marriage expanded beyond traditional gender roles, with women gaining greater autonomy and legal rights.
Today, there are various forms of relationships, including monogamy, polygamy, polyamory, and open relationships. The rise of dating apps and online dating has also led to new forms of relationships, such as long-distance and casual relationships.
Ultimately, there is no right or wrong way to approach relationships, but it's important to have open and honest communication with partners to ensure everyone is on the same page. By understanding the history and evolution of human relationships, individuals can gain a better appreciation for the various forms of relationships and what works best for them.
FUN FACT: Polyandry is a form of relationship in which one woman takes on multiple husbands. It is most common in Nepal due to the farming culture where additional husbands can help with the land. Monogamy is an unfamiliar concept in this society, as polyandry is deeply rooted in their traditions and values.

I'm excited to be sharing my knowledge and expertise with you in this chapter. We'll be diving into the 5 Love Languages and the 8 different types of Greek love, two important concepts that can help you understand your own needs and those of your partner.
The 5 Love Languages are a popular framework developed by Gary Chapman to describe the different ways people give and receive love. They include words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. By understanding your love language and that of your partner, you can improve communication and connection in your relationship.
Meanwhile, the ancient Greeks had a much more nuanced approach to love. They recognized 8 different types of love, including eros (romantic love), philia (platonic love), and agape (unconditional love). Understanding the different types of love can help you recognize what you're feeling and communicate it effectively to your partner.
We'll also be discussing different styles of sexual relationships, from monogamy to non-monogamy, and how to navigate them in a healthy and fulfilling way. By the end of this chapter, you'll have a deeper understanding of yourself, your partner, and how to create a strong and intimate connection. Let's get started!
Introductions are an important part of building trust and connection in any group, and in this course, there is no exception. So, let's start by introducing ourselves and sharing our relationship status.
My name is Shaft, and my relationship style is called Transparent Love. Currently, I have one beloved, two lovers, two dormant lovers, and two Tantra buddies. I am also looking for a Unicorn to add to my love circle.
When it comes to categorizing our relationships, the traditional labels like:
"husband/wife"
"boyfriend/girlfriend/partner"
"friends with benefits"
In Transparent Love, a proven strategy that I've created over the last 12 years, we use different terms to describe our connections with others.
Our partners are categorized as:
Beloveds
Lovers
Dormant Lovers
Tantra Buddies
By sharing our relationship status and using more descriptive categories, we can better understand and respect each other's choices and desires. It's important to remember that there is no one right or wrong way to love, and we each have our own unique journey to explore.
So, let's approach each other with transparency, an open heart, and a willingness to learn from each other.
In this exercise, you will have the opportunity to explore your personal definitions of love and sex with a partner or by yourself with me.
Take three minutes each to discuss and use your body and be animated:
WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN TO YOU?
WHAT DOES SEX MEAN TO YOU?
This is a chance to share your thoughts and feelings about these intimate and important aspects of life with someone else in a safe and non-judgmental space or with me.
After you've shared your thoughts, take a moment to reflect on your answers. Consider the idea that sex can be seen as the physical extension of love, and compare your definitions of love and sex to see how closely they align.
This exercise can help you gain insight into your own beliefs and attitudes towards love and sex, as well as open up a dialogue with your partner about these topics. It may also highlight any differences or similarities between your perspectives, allowing for greater understanding and communication within your relationship.
Transparent Love is built upon a strong belief system that emphasizes six key pillars.
The first pillar is Trust, as it is the foundation upon which love is built. Without trust, there can be no love.
The second pillar is Truth. It is important to always speak your truth and not second guess someone's emotions.
The third pillar is Transparency. Instead of being nice, be real with your partner.
The fourth pillar is Communication, which is the best lubrication for a healthy relationship.
The fifth pillar is Respect, which includes setting and respecting boundaries.
The final pillar is Inclusion, which involves making your partner feel safe and included in every aspect of your life.
By embracing these six pillars, you can cultivate a relationship based on mutual love, trust, and respect. In an exercise, you can explore each pillar with your partner by discussing what it means to you and how you can strengthen each one in your relationship.
If you want to create your own belief system a good starting point is to listen to this audiobook:
The Four Agreements by bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz.
In this exercise, we will explore the qualities we desire in a partner.
Take a few moments to name ten qualities that you want in a perfect partner.
Consider qualities like kindness, humor, intelligence, empathy, or ambition. After you have identified these qualities, ask yourself if you know anyone who possesses them.
By focusing on the qualities that we desire in a partner, we can gain a better understanding of ourselves and what we need in a relationship.
Engaging in a romantic relationship can be both exciting and daunting, especially when it comes to establishing expectations and boundaries. In this exercise, you and your partner will explore the "rules of engagement" by asking each other a series of questions before committing to a romantic relationship.
WHAT IS YOUR INTENTION FOR THIS RELATIONSHIP?
Discuss your intentions for pursuing a relationship with your partner. Are you looking for something casual or long-term? Understanding each other's expectations from the start can help to avoid misunderstandings down the line.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEARS FOR THIS RELATIONSHIP?
It's also important to discuss your fears and concerns about entering into a relationship. Be honest about any reservations you may have, whether it's related to past experiences or insecurities.
WHAT ARE YOUR DESIRES FOR THIS RELATIONSHIP?
Next, explore each other's desires and what you hope to gain from the relationship. What do you need from your partner to feel fulfilled and happy?
WHAT ARE YOUR BOUNDARIES FOR THIS RELATIONSHIP?
Establishing boundaries is crucial in any relationship. Boundaries are essential for a healthy relationship, and it's important to communicate them clearly. What are your deal breakers, and what actions are unacceptable in a relationship?
WHAT IS YOUR SEXUAL HEALTH?
It's essential to be honest and transparent about any STIs you may have to ensure the safety and health of both partners.
WHAT WILL THIS RELATIONSHIP MEAN TO YOU?
Finally, consider what this relationship means to you. What are your expectations, and what are you willing to invest in the relationship? By discussing these important topics, you can establish a solid foundation for a healthy, fulfilling relationship.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE FROM MAKING OUT TO MAKING-LOVE RITUAL
It's important to remember that everyone has their own preferences when it comes to physical intimacy. Some people enjoy making out as a way to connect with their partner and build anticipation, while others prefer to jump right into sex. Similarly, some people enjoy slow, sensual lovemaking, while others prefer rougher, more intense sex.
That being said, many people enjoy creating a ritual or routine around their physical intimacy. This can include things like setting the mood with candles or music, taking a bath or shower together, or even practicing meditation or breathing exercises to help connect on a deeper level.
Communication is key when it comes to figuring out what you and your partner both enjoy. Discussing your desires, boundaries, and preferences before engaging in physical intimacy can help ensure that both partners feel comfortable and satisfied. And don't be afraid to try new things and mix things up to keep things exciting and fresh.
The exercise may also involve experimenting with different techniques or activities that can enhance pleasure and deepen the connection between partners. Overall, this exercise provides a safe and supportive environment for couples to explore their sexuality and create a more fulfilling and satisfying intimate life.
The Forgiveness Ritual can be a transformative experience that allows individuals to let go of past hurts and embrace the present moment. It is a practice that emphasizes self-reflection, self-love, and compassion towards oneself and others.
By making a list of past lovers, individuals can acknowledge and process their emotions related to those relationships, and then release them through the act of burning the list.
This can be a cathartic experience that helps to heal emotional wounds and cultivate a sense of inner peace or a very joyful one full of gratitude. Everyone is different and is at different stages of their healing journey.
The Forgiveness Ritual is not about erasing past experiences or denying the impact they have had on one's life. Rather, it is about recognizing that forgiveness is a choice that can lead to greater emotional freedom and growth. It can be a way to take back control of one's life and move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.
Ultimately, the Forgiveness Ritual is a reminder that we are all human and capable of making mistakes. By offering forgiveness to ourselves and others, we can create a more compassionate and loving world.
The RelationShift Ritual, also known as Conscious Uncoupling, is a powerful exercise for healing and releasing negative energy from any relationship.
It involves expressing gratitude for the lessons learned and blessings received from the relationship, setting intentions for the future, and energetically disconnecting from each other.
One person goes first The exercise starts with expressing gratitude to avoid blaming and shaming. This helps both partners to focus on the positive aspects of the relationship and the growth they've experienced.
Energetically taking back all cords and saying the magic word "What's mine is mine, yours is yours. I release you". Then you switch.
This helps to create a sense of closure and also gives space for friendship as it shifts the relationship in a new direction.
By consciously uncoupling in this way, both partners can let go of any attachments and move forward with peace, love, and respect.
The Homework exercise is a powerful way to cultivate gratitude and heal relationships with our parents. Often, we take our parents for granted and focus on their shortcomings rather than the positive impact they have had on our lives. By expressing our love and gratitude to our parents, we can strengthen our relationships and create a positive ripple effect on our other relationships.
This exercise encourages us to step out of our comfort zones and make a heartfelt connection with our parents. It can be challenging to express our emotions, especially if we have had a strained relationship with our parents. However, by doing so, we create an opportunity for healing and growth.
Example Script:
"Hey, Dad/Mum, I wanted to say I'm sorry for the way I've acted and wanted to say I love you and I want to get to know you. What were you doing when you were my age?"
By cultivating healthy relationships with our parents, we create a solid foundation for all our future relationships.
Overall, the Homework exercise is a simple yet powerful way to deepen our connection with our parents and create a positive impact on our relationships.
The saying "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" emphasizes the importance of connection and collaboration in achieving our goals.
